Chinese R & D = Rip-off & Duplicate A.W.D. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

It's very common place for the Chinese to use a company's product tooling and resources to make their own knock-offs on 2nd and 3rd shift. A.W.D. I was researching rotary polishers one night and found a chinese wholesale site that had a whole production list of them, different sizes and colors. One of the color combos was kind of unique, it just so happened to match that of a high end rotary polisher. Further digging found them to be utterly identical. My Craftsman drill press is identical to the HF one, right down to the casting pattern and location of the "manufacturer" plate. My somewhat pricey Generac gas pressure washer has a 6.5hp engine that is identical to the HF unit. I nuked the engine in the thing a few months ago and bought one of the 6.5 predator engines to replace it. Utterly plug and play. |

My SnapOn just like that one is crap after a few years of extremely mild homeowner use.

I bought one of the HF's a few months ago, because my Snap on went tits up and they told me to pound sand, the HF one works great and I have no problem with it, for what I paid for the Snap On, I will be able to purchase 5 of the HF models when they are on sale with the coupon.
I have a lot of HF tools and have never broke one of them. |

All that plastic on the HF gun wont survive multiple dropsy test.
How many mechanics have dropped their air guns and the keep right on working. That plastic is going to give. |

I went to their headquarters in California this past December to interview for an engineering test lab manager position. Nice place, but hell with living there.
They are working on entering the pro tool market. They want to sell tools to contractors and other professionals. |

I have one and I really like it. I bought my snapon in the early 2000's and it doesnt even shake a stick at it. It has even been rebuilt by snapon due to low power and it didn't help much.

HF makes some stuff that is absolute garbage
and some stuff that just flat out works I still think my best purchase is a $30 electric impact I had no access to air so I ran out and bought one to fix a tractor out in a field stretched out a butt load of extension cord and boom done paid for itself the first time but has continued to impress the shit out of me for 6 years or so now my most recent purchase was the upgraded mig carts they started carrying.... identical to northern tool cart much cheaper when on sale and with a coupon... its one hell of a mig cart |

same here and their top of the line floor jack is way better then snap ons $600 version for the same thing, Snap on just lost to HF about the jack in court and it came out that they were/are made on the same line HF has come a long way on their "premium" line stuff granted they still have lots of other shitty tools but some nice ones as well So this LOL is directed towards the OP View Quote |

Around here it's much easier to deal with the dumbass at the Hazard Frought store than the Strap-on guy.
Having to wait once a week for the tool guy to show up is ridiculous. And then he never has one in his truck.... Tool guys need to go away, just sell your shit on Amazon like everybody else. I spent a good stint as a mechanic during and after college. I bought lots of used tools, MAC and Snap-on, but most of my tools were and still are S-K. Same quality, fraction of the price. Craftsman isn't bad, but if you use it everyday... yeah you'll start looking for better stuff. |

IR beats the hell out of Snap On air tools. Chicago Pneumatic makes SO's air tools last I checked.
Snap On doesn't even make their own torque wrenches. Precision Instruments made their split beam tq wrenches, exact same wrench is $150 new from PI, meanwhile idiots pay $250 for a used Snap On branded one on Ebay. CPI now makes the tq wrenches for SO. |

I own a snap on mg725 it's my favorite impact however after 4 years and a so rebuild that caused lots of moisture to go through it air lines it but the dust. My snap on rep is in over his head so I can't get anything from him now. I bought a Matco that looks like the Ingersoll Rand, I miss my snap on.
The composite shell on the matco is fine the Shell on the snap on is magnesium. I've also popped open my snap on and the inner works do not look the same as that hf impact. I've heard over at the garage journal forums that the earthquake is a good gun though. |

Indeed. I bought that jack (Daytona) and it is Grade-Fucking-A! Lifts fast, lowers very controllably and is SOLID. If anything my only complaint is that it's HEAVY!! View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:
