If you have a Tractor Supply near you they (at least here) usually have 50 cal metal cans for $10 each, I think the 30 cal is $8

This ^^^

Bought a bunch when they were on sale for $14.99. They're regularly $18.99. Only down side is the 50 cal can is slightly taller than standard GI can to accommodate the inclusion of the 30 cal can.

Have you checked out Uncle Sam's? I just bought 20 .30 cal cans and they are AWESOME. Legitimate mil surp 7.62 cans, some held blanks, others non-blanks. Great condition. Good price.

Several places sell cheap Chinese knock-offs, which, I guess, are ok. I have some, and throw a dessicant.

But may I offer a word of advice?

Do not fill a 50 cal can full of 45ACP. Trust me on this.

Say whaaaaa?

Edit - I'll be damned - I measured.  The Costco 50 cal can is 1/8" of an inch taller, and actually almost 1/8" of an inch wider at the top as well.  The lids are exactly the same dimensions, so I didn't notice when stacking them.  It wasn't enough to make a difference.

Except you have to pick them up or have a shipping service ship them.

The services are expensive.

Run a search for the sportsmans guide sale they just had and see if it is still good.

Had buy one get one free, could do it with 30cal, 50cal, fat 50, and 40mm cans.

If you are a member or get their free month long membership free shipping at $75 worth.

40mm cans came out at $11.25 per can delivered to door.

They are slightly sandy/dirty.  Hosed right off.  Not like caked on mud or anything.

Have seen one person say they had a can with a dent in the can lip and another one the latch would not work, or maybe the dent would not let the latch work.

I just go pick them up myself.

I wound up with over 600 of the 40mm ammo cans at less than $2 apiece a few years ago.  Had to make 3 trips.   But it was only an hour away so not too bad.

The real problem is, the small lots usually go so high, it's not worth the trip.   Might as well just buy retail at that point.

I didn't notice it either until I stacked several next to USGI cans. Doesn't bother me, I'll continue to buy one or two when ever I see them on sale at Costco for $14.99.

I have some after-market cans from China.   They're identical to my surplus cans except for paint and markings - even smell the same.  I'm convinced they bought old tooling from someone in the US.

Ammo cans are crazy expensive though.  Most of mine I got from my time in the service.  Early 1990s - discovered they were great for storing compact discs so I snagged a bunch.

This PSA sale is a Fourth of July PREVIEW, so it should go live again sometime this weekend.  They did the same thing last Black Friday and I got some when first announced on the preview, they went OOS, then were available again by Black Friday.  I put 12 cans in my cart on this current sale, went to checkout, and OOS. They are still in my cart, and when it goes live again, they will be mine!  Comes to $7.50 per can shipped, and the cans from Black Friday were all brand new, but got some scratches from the loose shipping boxes they used.  Fine by me, as they get banged around anyway.
