It ended better when the USS George Washington hit the Japanese freighter. The freighter sank but George Washington was relatively undamaged.

it would suck to be the captain of a warship sunk by a boat full of MP3 players......

Somebody tell me how you can accidentally not see an entire cargo ship. Don't they have radar? A cargo ship is kind of big. View Quote There are also rules to navigation at sea and not everyone abides by those rules. They likely saw it coming but did not have the time or distance to safely evade collision. |

An avoidable accident.
That ship will have a brand new skipper and exec staff after repairs and a formal inquiry. Any job openings for a captain of a freighter full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong? |

View Quote I get it, life can be frustrating. Everything is relative though, hitting a container vessel sucks but we still have the best Navy in the world. Where 9/11 plays into this I don't understand. Additionally I think that comment was incredibly out of line. We have the freedom to travel the world easily, sometimes freedoms come with vulnerabilities that are just part of the cost. |

ITT we learn who doesn't drive boats for living.
No excuse for this collision, that being said shit happens. And shit happens when you are a navy ship whe you have entirely too many people in the wheelhouse. |

No but in the USCG Rules of the Road book they use the terms "stand on" and "give way". https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/298946/image-232193.JPG My personal Rules book is old but they haven't changed those terms. View Quote |

I wonder how much time the guys in the wheelhouse had to think about how terribly things had gone wrong before they were actually struck.

I hope the skipper has given some thought to what he would like to do with the rest of his life after the Navy.

I feel for the CO. If he was off the bridge and his standing orders were ignored then the OOD's incompetence will be the undoing of his career. Almost every vessel's first standing order is to wake the captain when in doubt. View Quote It didn't matter. |

Those bilge discharges and gunwale top are usually much higher above the waterline. She is flooding for sure. There is a lot of freeboard wet now. I hope not sinking. She needs more pumps and less holes.

Because warships are subject to COLREGS as well, and judging from the impact zone, the Burke was quite likely primarily responsible for the incident. View Quote I doubt if the freighter was overtaking the destroyer. |

Well I think that changes things. The merchant was overtaking? That container ship has a giant bulbous bow, by the way. I'm thinking there's a lot of damage below the waterline. |

I have a MK25 so i'm basically a navy seal now but i'm going to need a ms paint on what some of you are suggesting happened.
Did the pewpew ship cut in front of the radio shack crap ship? |
