Labeling someone a troll or a shill removes them as a member of the discussion and allows you to dismiss their viewpoint and disregard their contribution. It's basically dehumanizing them so you don't have to meet them on even ground and let the merit of your arguments speak for themselves.
Real forum sliding is invisible. The people doing it aren't obvious trolls that you will notice and be able to label. Basically only people who can't defend their position or understand the argument are the ones who scream "troll!" |
