How accurate is it?
It was entertaining. Its on Netflix now 60 million dollar movie with Brad Pitt |
Trailer:
War Machine Trailer #1 (2017) | Movieclips Trailers (I don't know - to answer your query - but it seems slanted politically) |
I'm watching it now and laughing at parts.
Yes, it's liberal slanted, it's a Netflix movie. Netflix hates America and most of the movies available are shit. |
I thought we were going to chat about the MMA star who beat the dog piss out of his porn star girlfriend when he caught her in the sack with another dude.

20 minutes in and bored.
It's so obvious that Pitt is supposed to be McChrystal. Why not just make a movie about him instead of this pseudocomedy BS? Plus, this movie is driven by expositional narration. Which is a lazy way to move a plot. |
It was definitely bias. But Pitt did a pretty Job making me think he didn't just want scalps:
Worth watching once. |
I planned on watching it, understanding from the get go it wasn't a documentary
More likely a satire of the waste of blood and treasure AFG was. No disrespect intended to those who went, I wish you didn't. The fact that you did brings dustiness to the room. |

I keep seeing advertisements for it, but I doubt I'll actually watch it. 3 more days until House of Cards though
It wasn't bad IMO. Pitt was silly and such an obvious characature it was very unfunny. The message is a good one though, and it is fairly historically accurate. For those saying it's biased towards a liberal audience, they sure didn't portray Obummer in a flattering light.
Struck me as a liberal feel good movie. I was busy so I didn't catch every second of it but that was what I got from it.

War Machine - Tyler Jay |
Brad Pitt's cool, but before I see this someone please assure me it's not him doing the same thing he did in Inglourious Basterds?
Looking forward to the second World War Z movie, BTW. |

Don't read this if you're a spoiler hater.
On the left-right scale, I thought it to be surprisingly even. It slammed the previous president hard, while taking the narrator's perspective of a Rolling Stone writer. They should have added Edward Norton though, as much of the movie was trying to be snarky, in a comedic attempt to be cute. The war over there was more serious than they portrayed- it could have been far more slanted left than the result. Entertaining, but not a real war movie by any means. |
People still have netflix? Nothing but garbage that nobody wanted to watch to begin with.
It was funny how they made Obama look like some kinda ghetto pimp the way he walked the reception line at Air Force One. They also made McChyrstal look bizarre as all hell. Strange movie....almost satirical.

Weird movie.
Had all the elements to be a quirky satire, but they relied on the same joke/set up for 2 fucking hours. It needed to be a hell of a lot tighter...chop off 20-30 minutes of the filler. As Netflix stepped in and paid $60 million for distribution rights in 2015 (effectively funding the whole project), I guess they wanted their money's worth in run time. |

Stopped watching when the Marine ran out of his compound away from his platoon. As a guy that actually fought in Helmand, Kandahar and Kabul province it pissed me off how the Marines where portrayed to be unwilling pussies.

Watching it now and honestly kinda bored.
Seems weird to have a 34 y/o guy playing a colonel. Here's the 'War Machine' referenced above who beat up his porn star girlfriend. Attached File |

Brad Pitt was terrible. It was like he was playing a caricature of a comic book character based on an impersonation. Never once did Pitt's character seem like a real person.
That trailer alone irked the shit out of me. Between brads voice, his facial grins, and the joke appearance of this movie.. I will not be watching it
Tried to watch it. Worst thing I have seen in a long time. Its just bad. The acting is beyond bad. Its like a bunch of good actors were told to act like really bad actors playing their roles. Also any narrative film with more voice over than a documentary just means the writers and director suck. I made it forty minutes in and just couldn't fade the suck anymore.
Pretty obvious now how a Brad Pitt movie ended up going straight to Netflix. Its just that shitty. |
LOL at people angry at facts.
Yes, movie with humor, taken lightly and a couple bleeding heart liberaloid sparks here and there. But the key parts about invading people and them never going to be ok with it other than asking you time and again to please GTFO, the rolling stone interview and the part were Obama says exactly when they are leaving, all very much true. |

I didn't think it was that good. Can't say I'll watch it again.

Really like Brad Pitt but he's terribly miscast in this.
They needed somebody with some more gravitas. More presence. Don't know if he's going to find his niche in the movies again. 52 years old with a boyish face is off-putting. Tom Cruise has a similar problem. |

Yes, you're right. Bad job all around.
Ben Kingsley was funny, though. |

I've tried watching it two nights in a row and am maybe 1/4 of the way into it.
I just can't watch it. |
Boring movie that had its moments but they were few and far in between. Kind of like watching someone try and start a lawnmower with a bad carburetor. A lot of effort, pulling, sweat, and just enough coughing and sputtering to make you think something was about to happen and then.... back to more effort, pulling, and sweat. Not to mention the characters were so one dimensional they could have easily done the movie with chess pieces and have their moves narrated as they cross the board.
An actual serious movie about McChrystal and his time in Iraq and Afghanistan would have been much better even with Brad Pitt playing the lead role. But that would have required them to tell the truth, and the truth wouldn't have fit the narrative. |

I couldn't finish it. It was like a live action cartoon and the narrator was an idiot. I had to stop when the narrator stated as fact that you can't win hearts and minds by invading a country. Apparently he missed WW II where Germany, Japan, Italy and a number of other countries are now our allies. I suppose you can argue about "allies", but they are certainly no longer a threat.
Quoted:
If you haven't seen him in the World War II movie "Allied" you should check it out. He does a good job playing a Canadian OSS officer working undercover in Casablanca. Pretty much a love story but there are some good action scenes. http://www.movietard.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Allied-2016.png View Quote He's 10 or 12 years older than Marion Cottiliard. Also, way too old to be an RAF/RCAF pilot. |
