Why do libs feel this is a legitimate question to ask? Why is it so important... Other than the obvious "piss off" rebuttal to this question, what are some of your answers? I've been asked that a couple times. Usually I deflected it and keep quiet. One memorable time I answered it truthfully, that I had no idea how many guns I owned. I then went on to explain that, were we talking about actual complete firearms, or just receivers, AK-flats, etc, and what about situations where my friends/family and I shared ownership of a gun. I.E. if I bought a lower, but it was connected to my Dad's upper, whose gun is it...
That was pretty amusing. |

"Not enough" should suffice. I don't discuss guns anymore around strangers or even most Co-workers/ family View Quote Especially as a California resident, it is best to keep that to yourself. Never know when a relationship, business deal or friendship can go sideways. "Gun violence restraining order" is all you need to know. I used to be pretty vocal and was known as the "gun guy" at work but over the past 3-4 years I have stopped being that guy. |

I am shocked as this is GD and most like to brag about how they have 840 FICO score...pay everything with cash and clear $300,000 annually.
I always think of gun ownership like having tattoos. You cannot just have one. I don't personally know since I don't have any tattoos, but I always see inky's with more than one tattoo. |

You have enough to start a war! ARFCommer: That's BS. I don't have enough guns to start a war. I have enough guns to win a war. In all seriousness, the correct answer is "guns are icky" and move on to associating with people who aren't brain dead (libs). |

According to the FBI there are been 262,000,000 from Nov 98 through April 17.
That does not take into account multiple purchases per check. It does not include sales to qualified permit holders whose transactions are not run through NICS. To say there are approx 300,000,000 firearms is to guess way too low. In that 18.5 year period, background checks averaged 14,000,000/year. Let's take that number and halve it to 7,000,000 and multiply it by 10 years for the period running Nov 88 - Oct 98. That is another 70 million firearms. Assume there were at least one million firearms purchases/year since WWII until Oct 88, then you have another 43,000,000 easily. Now we are up to a very, very conservative 413,000,000 firearms. I think it would be safe to say that there are close to one half billion privately-owned firearms in the USA. |

Some variation of "a lot".
Why should I lie about it? There is some evidence that our reticence to be "out and proud" about our firearms ownership is hurting us. ETA: I don't live in some sketchy place with sketchy neighbors so have little fear of thieves. |

Never had that question. I usually hear the nobody needs an assault rifle bit often. I last few times I got a little heated describing how they're used to Cull feral hogs and coyotes that destroy farms and attack livestock that we depend on supplying the grocery stores we shop at for food.

I was hanging out with a pointy headed liberal college professor buddy of mine a while back. He's an incredibly good shot and he and I see eye to eye on the need for everyman to go armed. We disagree on some philosophical points but on essentials we are in total agreement. If I need him to bring his gun to my uncomfortable social situation he'll be there with a smile. Drives a Subaru.... Anyways. We were talking to an acquaintance of his one evening. Acquaintance: "So, I hear you're into guns. How many do you own?" Me: "I have what I need. They're only tools." Acquaintance: "But how many? Are you some kind of end of the world gun nut?" Buddy: "I think the question you really want to ask is "How many guns does he have ON him right now?" Me: "Oh, the usual. One and a knife. Not that I need either to make my point." Acquaintance: Buddy: "Let's not get hung up on what we may or may not have in our pants, OK? It's what's happening between our ears that matters." Me: "You too? Still packing that little J-Frame?" Buddy: "I refuse to make joinder." Then the conversation turned to why anyone would own a double stack 9mm pistol. The premise that was put forward that they were the tools of the jack booted thug enforcers of society's arbitrary standards. Much hilarity ensued when it was later discovered I was packing just such a pistol, and a Blue Label Glock to boot. Blue Labels are nothing but a corporate form of welfare to the police state. I think my buddy brought it up just to horrify the other guy as we assumed these opposing roles and really went to town. Great times. View Quote No, not "corporate welfare". More like the discount certain professions get on tools or equipment for their job. Lots of officers have to buy their own gear. Hell, I get discounts on Nikon camera gear because I'm a "pro". I typically laugh and tell them I lost count after 100.
Then I'll tell them with 200 million guns and 12 trillion rounds of ammo in the hands of legal gun owners, if we were a problem you'd know about it, and there wouldn't be a fucking thing you could do to stop us. That usually shuts them up. |
