Remember the first time? They showed live video of the ambulance taking the Ebola from the airport to the hospital. All it would have taken was one explosion under or an RPG into that ambulance to spew Ebola all over.

That was the worst part for me.

The worldwide death toll from the last Ebola outbreak was 11,315 people.

Tuberculosis kills that many people every two days.

Call me when something important happens.

Last time, some goofball who arrived in NYC, took a subway from the airport to his home and then went to a public restaurant to have dinner. Can you imagine if that spread to everyone who came in contact with that dude during his subway traveling and then passing it on second-hand to everyone else? It would be an outbreak.

ABCNEWS:

The World Health Organization, which first reported the outbreak last week, said Monday that 19 people are suspected of developing Ebola infections and three of the patients have died in the remote Bas Uele province. Despite attempts to trace contacts and stop the disease, the WHO reported the "national risk" for the DRC is "high."

Arfcom's Razor says so.

Or, we can just isolate the infected, intervene to prevent traditional burial practices, and everything will be just fine.

Meh, whatever, that sounds boring.  Let's elevate this to DEFCON 1, lock the doors, and throw people off the rooftops ... just to be safe.

Ebola is a pretty nasty scary virus. I think it kills its victims too fast usually to be much of a pandemic though. Sorry guys, this probably isn't your zombie apocalypse.

Yes. But Reston affected Monkeys (killed) and made a janitor sick with something like the flu.
Marburg kills people, and is an airborn infection spread like Reston.
The day Marburg shows up on our doorstep it's going to be disastrous.

This is a GD Africa thread, so logic and reasoned opinions have no place here.

Due to the population densities in the DRC the severity of an outbreak is typically not nearly as bad as what we saw in Liberia and the surrounding countries.

Given that we have a vaccine that's highly effective at worst, and perhaps 100% effective, ebola is no longer the scare to the US that it once was.

That is what happens when it occurs in areas with low population densities.  What made the previous outbreak severe was that it occurred in high density areas.  The DRC is sparsely populated with little infrastructure to allow for the disease to easily spread.
