Well, sorry to hear that.

But I don't believe for a minute that kid was "drug free" except for a single evening on Thanksgiving weekend last year.

You mean the person who was initially denied a transplant at one hospital and then ultimately received a transplant at another who died due to complications from the transplant?     That person?

This is why I hate the media.   Even if you read the article you have to read nearly half way through before you realize this person did not die due to being turned down for a transplant.

Terrible for the family.

So the original tx risk was accurate.  So who died because this guy got those lungs?   That's the real question here.

This.  Interview the family of the guy who followed the procedures but didn't get lungs.

I was under the impression he received a set of lungs in Pittsburgh.

Uh, no, he was given a new set of lungs and then died, even though he was denied before that.

Drunks, drug-addicts, and habitual criminals should be way down the list to get transplants.

Anybody remember Anthony Stokes?  He's the poster child for that concept.  Giving him a transplant did nothing but hurt innocent people... mostly his victims, and the person who died because a transplantable organ was wasted on a young felon.

I heard on the local (radio) news the other day that livers are in the most demand for transplants.

In the late 80 this superintendent where I worked was a drunk,he had two kids he was raising because his wife got hooked on meth and disappeared

They moved him up the line and he got a new liver because of those kids.

The POS kept drinking and it was wasted on him.he lived 3 more years

Always pissed me off because you know someone died that didn't need to because of his drunk ass,

Here is the archived thread on that Stokes kid.  His parents waged a media campaign, implying racism and all manner of things to get him placed back on the transplant list.

Which the hospital did, and he got a new heart... which he promptly wasted, despite promising to change his ways.  He was a known criminal well before the transplant.

Not really. If your heart is wasted maybe your lungs and cornea aren't. Better that at least some gets used than all gets wasted.

you could see it that way, or you could see it as a way to potentially live again by taking over the host.

Lots of unanswered questions in both articles, kid was clearly sick as the one photo certainly looks like he's on ECMO, how long was he on ECMO, why would he need a double lung transplant? How long was he in the hospital prior to being told he needed lungs?

I know this could never happen, but it would be amusing if they had done a sham operation.  Open and close his chest.
