This happened to me last week. Which was no surprise because I figured bringing my own steel target someone else would shoot it. When I saw it happen I walked up to the guy shooting and said "hey that's my target stop shooting it." He said he thought it was the ranges target and he didn't realize you could bring steel targets. He apologized and that was the end of it if he would been an asshole I would have just told the RO and let him kick the guy out.

Had it happen to me.
Outdoor range. Had posted up some paper targets. All my gear laying out in front of the targets. Stepped away for a minute. Came back to a couple of assclowns blasting away at my targets. I asked them WTF are you doing? He mumbled some weak crap about thinking I had left. I said Yeah I left. All my gear right fucking there on the table and my truck 6ft away as well. Then I said are you going to replace my targets? He mumbled some weak shit about not having any. You expect me to believe you came to the shooting range with no targets? Yep. |

I've done it on purpose because asshat fudds won't go cold so others can set up their targets after a stupid long period of time. I'll just go back to shooting for 30 seconds and add a few flyers to their target.

Never had that happen to me at the public range. But I always go as far as I can from folks. If that did happen to me I think I would have said something super polite that felt like "go F' yourself" when it came out.

I've had my fair share of terrifying experiences at public ranges, worst ever was last fall, I was setting up clays at the far left end, 25 yards out, at my local public (NO RO) 100 yard range, breaking in a CZ712 3-Gun. Range was cold, several shooters were down the line picking their stuff up and leaving for the day. I took a bit longer than most, and as I'm walking back from the 25 yard line, see its just me and a bozo with some friends on the opposite side of the firing line (about 20 yards down from me). Bozo proceeds to raise his pistol and start shooting... I screamed HEY WH** THE F***, hustle to the firing line, and reach down to draw my pistol at about the same time... Figured there was NO way he didn't see me, and as it was just me and him with his friends, I wasn't sure exactly what the plan was. Guy has about 6 heart attacks when he decides to look away from his target, apologizes profusely. We had a quick chat about range safety when no RO's were present, and he packed up and left with his friends. I left shortly after, and spent the entire drive home thinking about how I should have torn him to pieces... I didn't, and looking back I think I made the right call.
My rules for public ranges these days: Dont bring any targets that you arent willing to have demolished. Never go alone. Always have someone else there to keep eyes open on the firing line. Be as nice as possible to everyone, even when they are in the wrong. If anyone is acting in the least bit odd or irresponsible... leave. Don't leave anything laying on the table that you aren't willing to lose forever. When calling range cold, make sure everyone knows you will call range hot BEFORE firing as well. I think you handled it well, but in my drive home replay I would've likely replayed 60 ways I should've taught him a lesson. |

over Easter weekend i was at the 10yrd pistol range making noise with a pair of my cowboy guns. and the range goes cold. a group of guys walk up, to a man wearing skinny jeans tight fitting grey t-shirts and gold jewlery. At this range they have plasitic panels that are the designated spots for targets. well these guys walk up and proceed to use the two designated spots and then spread 4 more targets all over the fuckin place. the range officer calls them out, well the one guy starts rattling on in something that sounded slavic but wasn't english. apparently they decided to push the issue by dramatically ripping off all the targets then sidestepping a couple of feet and replacing one of them by putting a ridiculous amount of staples on the target (i guess to make a point).. at this point these Russian mob looking guys are chattering back and forth and laughing while holding up the entire range because once again the RO makes him walk back out and take down the targets in the wrong spot..
i had my revenge though, the wind shifted right then slowed to barely a whisper as the line went hot, and they were downwind.. and one of my cowboy guns makes allot of smoke.. so i loaded up both cylinders and turned on the fogger... they were not happy when they couldn't see their target anymore .

I have had someone shoot my targets but not on purpose.
I was at an indoor range, and since I had gotten a new iron for the AR was sighting it in. I had gotten it zeroed and was shooting one more mag when an older guy walks in. I give the AR to my wife so she can shoot some, and notice this old dude just giving us this death stare. Like he was thinking in his mind all the things he could tell this whipper snapper and about how AR's are baby killing machines only police and soldiers should have. So I go to shoot and notice this guy taking out his 38 revolver, and undoing the 2 locking mechanisms he had on it.. one was a trigger lock and he had a chamber lock going through the barrel and had that locked too. Kinda loled and started shooting. I finished and started reeling the target back. I look over and see this guy struggling with this 38 and noticed at MAYBE 6-7 feet in front of him, he had not managed to hit the black once. then as I look back at my target coming towards me I noticed the paper moving from being hit.. Sure enough he had managed to shoot the WHITE on both sides of my target as well. I didn't say anything because it was pretty obvious where he had hit it, and I was still able to score it. It may have been that he was having a hard time seeing, I can't remember if had was wearing glasses or not but one thing was sure. He was enjoying his Sunday at the range away from the wife, and I wasn't going to be a dick and give him a hard time about it. |

I shot someone else's target earlier this yea with my M1. We had the same Walmart target and I didn't realize that. I offered to replace his target but he didn't care. He said it was a reasonable mistake, but I was still embarrassed.

The only time I've ever had my target shot by someone else, it was by some idiot with an M1919, and he was shooting up everybody's target, he was so bad. Fucking thing even had a T&E.
