So, my sister was rear ended and it fucked up her back.  One of her disks is trashed and needs replaced as the pressure on her spine has already caused her arm to begin pralyzing.  Her neurosurgeon told her she had about six weeks max before the damage was permanent (she also broke her shoulder and hit her knees hard enough to cause fluid to fill them up, they think it will cause permanent arthritis) and possibly full paralysis.  They have her scheduled for Arthroplasty to replace the destroyed disk with an artificial one.  What is she looking at in terms of risk and recovery?

Wow. She is in for it.

My only advice is never, ever, ever let her take opioids.
