(Reuters) - A group of men shot and wounded two police officers in an ambush-style attack outside an apartment building in Miami late on Monday, media reported.

The officers were in an unmarked car at about 10 p.m. at the Annie Coleman housing projects, known as "The Rockies," when the men walked up to the vehicle and opened fire, the Miami Herald newspaper reported.

At least one of the officers fired back, John Rivera, president of the Miami-Dade police union, said, and both survived the attack in the city's Brownsville district.

"They were outnumbered and outgunned. God was watching over them tonight," Rivera told the newspaper.

ETA:

The unidentified officers were in stable condition at a local hospital, Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez told journalists. One of the officers was shot in the leg and the other was grazed by a bullet, the Herald reported.

Wonder what type of "people" set the ambush.

Glad the officers are going to make it.

Plainclothes and unmarked car.

Could it be a mistaken identity thing from a rival gang?

Either way, sounds like its "Weapons Free" time.

How about anyone in housing projects are subject to searches.

They can keep their guns if they are legal and are not prohibited.

First Off, Prayers sent to the Officers for a quick and complete recovery.

Secondly, Good Shooting on hitting one of the Ambushers.

Thirdly, Everyone (cops especially) should be getting prepared for more of this crap (along with general acts of violence, including bombings). I'm not saying this is Leftist Ideology motivated (most likely Hoodrats doing Hoodrat stuff), but the tactics effects look the same.

How about instead of suspending the constitution we keep violent criminals in prison even if that means building bigger prisons.  Parole should be something granted to the very best behaved of inmates who are actually making an effort to correct their path not as a method of clearing bunks.

Every cop I know is frustrated beyond belief that they arrest the same shitbirds over and over again and only after a horrific crime are they actually locked up.  Otherwise it's catch and release with the judge acting like the UN.

"You better stop being bad or I'm going to tell you to stop being bad again."

How are you planning on locking them up?

The reason they are able to offend again and again is the current interpretation of the 8th Amendment. Specifically the part about excessive Bail.

If you wanna lock someone up and throw away the key, you are going to have to go to trial and strike a Jury, no-one wants to be on one (see numerous other threads). Our system is so over strained that the prosecutors depend on plea deals to keep just as far behind as they are now on cases, if they had to try every case, you'd be waiting decades for your trial.

But back to Bail, where I live the SPLC/ACLU has whined the bail schedule so low that you can be charged with Murder and get out on a 50,000 bond, which seems like a lot, until you realize that that is 10% cash to a bondsman (5k) or property put up to secure release (which even a crappy house is worth 50k), Only way you keep them is with Locked Bonds (No Bond) which is now Court Order only, or Cash Bond (which is used for traffic tickets and child support mostly).

But we'll assume you can get a locked bond and quick conviction, how are you going to keep them in prison? prisons are overcrowded as soon as they are built and the Feds will step in (and release people) if it reaches a certain point.

And before anyone says it, no your typical dope smoker isn't in prison for getting caught with weed, if you see a big sentence for "just weed" its likely thats the only thing the police could pin on him... after all Al Capone went down for tax evasion, not countless murders...

So... there is literally nothing you can do, short of instituting a effective death penalty, hiring more judges, prosecutors, and cops, then some real three strikes laws (like 3 separate felonies and your "out" of life).
