Even though its a dying round and I already have two .223 bolt guns in conjunction with my ARs and Mini-14s
Everything I've read about this little rounds says that its capable of stupid accuracy I'd love to find a Remington 722 or older 700 ADL but Tikka makes a T3 in .222 as well. I'd imagine a Tikka in .222 would shoot like a house on fire |

I think the only firearms I have ever seen in person in that caliber were two used Mini14s at a LGS years ago.

I would think you'd be able to pick one up on gunbroker (assuming you can find someone willing to go through whatever hoops it takes to export it). I got a very clean 722 in 257 Rob 2 months ago for $500.

I wanted a 219 Donaldson Wasp for a while.
I'm glad that notion passed. |

My dad's Sako Rihimaki 222 was my first centerfire rifle when he gave it to me in the 60's. The first one was stolen, I've got another one now, also a Sako 222. It's a very accurate gun, lightweight, and still my favorite rifle even though I don't shoot it much anymore.

I have a T\C Contender .222 Rem barrel. It's a 10" octagon barrel. Shoots 40g Ballistic Tips extremely accurate. I whacked groundhogs out to around 175 yds with that set up.
Used to have a Rem 788 in .222 Rem. Loved that rifle. It was stolen a long time ago. |

Most of the calibers are not really dead. Not so common and you will want to reload ,plan ahead and buy components over the internet (which is a good plan in general even for regular calibers).
I knew some folks growing up and the three boys always talked of the summer trips from CT out to the old farm where they would shoot woodchucks when Grandpa thought they were big enough to handle his 222. All the boys and their dad spoke very highly of that gun . I believe it was a winchester |

Great round...easy to load for, recoil is nill, can see your hits through the scope, I currently have a CZ 527 American.

I had an OLD Sako L46 .222rem, regular sporter configuration bbl. While accuracy was AWESOME, wouldn't/couldn't outshoot my OLD Sako L57 .243win, with Bull bbl/Target model. Both rifles were Factory, NO mods, except for pull weights adjusted for me, both had adjustable triggers. The military definitely made a MISTAKE choosing the WORTHLESS .223! An old Rem700 in .222 would serve you well if you're looking for accuracy unrivaled by NONE!

A good friend is a 222 fan, has a custom Rem 700 and a Contender in the caliber.
It is an inherently accurate cartridge and if the wind isn't blowing, is great for varmint hunting. Most are barreled with a 1:14 twist so a 40 grain bullet is preferred. I have a Sako 461 in 17-222 that is a sweetheart, and when the barrel goes I am going to set it up in straight 222. |

I wonder though how well those 222 feed in ARs. |

[#23]
A couple of things to know about the 222. Several of the older makers barrelled them with 14" twists so you will be limited to 50-55 gr cup and core bullets. If you want to shoot tipped bullets you will be limited to 45gr bullets.
The 222 is an inherently accurate round. I have never found a 222 rifle that does not shoot well, under an inch with most factory ammo. Prvi makes a 50 gr cartridge that shoots one ragged hole at 100 yards and they are 10.00 a box , you can feed it pretty cheap. Their case capacity is in the low 20's so reloading powder goes a long way. Last but not least, if you get one, you'll love it! P |

I had a semi custom Remington 600 over 30 years ago that was a great shooter. I now have a H&R which is actually a Sako L461 that is also great. My H&R/Sako has beautiful wood like the Sako Vixens that I have seen. I like the Sako action in this caliber because it is nice and compact. The Rem 700 is a proven action but is much longer than what is needed for cartridges of this length. No big deal just a personal pref on my part.
You will love the 222 when you get one. Tuco |

You really don't. You want a fast twist 223. I had a custom Remington 40X made in 222. It didn't shoot worth a damn until it was re-barreled. What makes a 222 a good round is that it needs a good barrel but a good barrel on a 223 will do a lot more. A fast twist 223 will be as good as a 308 out to 1000 yards in light winds. Better yet, get a 22-250 with a fast twist and shoot the 90 grain pill, then you have something special.

Ive done a couple of 222 AR uppers and they ran great and were extremely accurate. I'm going to do a couple of AR-15 barrels in 20 Vartarg Turbo(222 necked to .20) as soon as I can afford the reamer. It should be the Shitz for prairie poodles and ground squirrels.

Almost 40 years ago I had a buddy with a beautiful Rem. M700 in .222 Rem. It had a one turn in 14" barrel. It had some factory stock fitment issues so we "opened" it up and then glass bedded it with an Acraglas kit. After that, with his 50 grain soft point flat based bullet reloads (don't remember the bullet brand or powder he used) that rifle would shoot 5 shots into a group that a dime would cover - at 150 yds. Awesome shooting little rifle. Beautiful stock with the cut checkering, not stamped like my M700 Varmint Special has.
