A gunman opened fire during an armed robbery at Las Vegas' iconic Bellagio hotel, prompting terrified tourists to seek shelter amid a chaotic scene.

At least three people entered a high-end store inside the resort early Saturday morning, including one who fired gunshots, police said.Witnesses and photos suggest the armed burglary took place at the Bellagio's Rolex store, and show a person in a pig mask with a gun in hand.

One suspect has been taken into custody. No one was injured, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department later confirmed. Parts of the casino property remain closed as authorities investigate.

Officers received a call about the incident at the Bellagio at 12:50 am, and has apprehended one suspect by 2:15 am.

The sheer size of those billion dollar casinos, and the inability to move quickly pretty much anywhere on the Strip, is undoubtedly a deterrent to criminals contemplating targeted high end robberies.

See what I posted above about the LVMP bike patrols.

But the casino did make money off of them. By implementing paid parking, not only did they think it would be extra revenue but that it would also deter crime. I wonder how they paid for this one!

When I lived in Vegas, it was understood that one had better hope the LVPD gets there before the casino security guys could have their way with one. I think casino security has a fairly free hand in dealing with 'security issues'.

Looks like LVMPD is now saying there were no shots fired. And they are not confirming any gun. The gun report came from a witness.

Probably a carry over from the old days, when "Casino Management" included "a lot of people you didn't want to fuck with" if you didn't want to wind up in a shallow grave out in the desert.

The article says they were trying to sledgehammer open the display.
I'm guessing that's the hammer and the "gunshot" was actually the hammer hitting the plexiglass.

I've seen security guys carrying concealed.  Some were wearing suits.  Some looked like plain clothes police - only wearing more expensive casual clothing.

Friend of mine was out with friends and somehow someone saw his CCW and told security. Security just walked up to him asked if he was carrying. He said yes and they told him he could put it in his car and come back in or he would have to leave. Security walked him to his car watched him put the gun away and walked him back in. Everyone went on with their night.

I have yet to hear any horror stories of carrying in a casino. Costco is another story though.

It depends, like I said not illegal.  It's private property so they could ask you to leave if they wanted to and if you don't they could trespass you.  I carry on the strip and in the casinos whenever I'm down there, which isn't very often as I tend to avoid it if I can. Actually I pretty won't go the strip without a CCW.

Last July I stayed at the venetian for a week and had my ccw on me the whole time, it was either on my hip or in the kids diaper bag and never had an issue

Saw armed uniformed and uc security walking around and the uc guys tried blending in looking like tourist..

My fist night there I went with the sil to have a drink while the others went to get food and stuff and a hooker asked if I was doing anything tonight and then later while we were playing slots a guy came up and asked if we needed anything to make ouroom night better, he looked like a Coke head and still had some of his product around his nose lol.

Vegas is my once every 5 year trip for vacations unless I'm there for a work related conference or going somewhere else.

Idiots.

What's the value of a Rolex flagged as stolen and that cannot be serviced by an authorized dealer?

Seems like a lot of a Rolex's value is based on verifiable authenticity, service, and dealer reputation.

I guess they could go to a non-authorized dealer for service, but offloading them would require a steep discount.

The gold or platinum watches could easily be sold in Asia for near full price.
There's a huge market in China and India especially for solid gold Rolexes.
The Chinese mob is big in Vegas and could fence those watches no problem.
If you smashed the right display case you could net $500,000+ in watches that would all fit into a couple of cargo pockets.

I  wonder how far away you would actually have to mask up to avoid getting on camera.  I could see the casinos having lots of hidden cameras at the perimeter.

A gold Rolex is considered "the bribe" in China.
Would you tell a high ranking communist official that you wouldn't service his shiny gold Rolex because it was stolen?
Who are you going to call? The Chinese police chief that works for that official (and is probably wearing his own bribe watch)?

Rolex.

The store next to it would have been better to rob, since it carries Patek Phileppe and other more prestigious brands than Rolex.

Also as far as robbing the casinos, whoever does it isn't just a criminal, but criminally stupid. Of all the places to rob, a Las Vegas strip casino is on the short list of the worst places to hit. They'd have better chances of getting away with a bank robbery.
