Got a baseball autographed to me, by Mickey Mantle. He autographed baseball's to myself and my brother many years back.

He was one who signed untold amounts of autographs and as such it's not rare by autograph standards, but it is personalized, as its signed to me and a favorite momento of mine.

It's in storage now in a protective case, but before my divorce it was prominently displayed in our residence.

When I was a kid my dad attended a seminar for something retirement/investing related. One of the guest speakers was Donald Trump. I didn't know who he was or what the fuss was about but knew he was famous on some level so I walked up to him and asked for his autograph. No clue what happened with it :/

Other one was the lead singer to drowning pool, now deceased.

The only ones I have:

Gunther Rall - Knights Cross w/Oak leaves & Swords
William R. Lawley - Medal of Honor
William Reid - Victoria Cross

There is also a Russian fighter pilot who was awarded Hero of The Soviet Union, but I can't remember his name and can't tell from the autograph. I met all four at a symposium in the early 90's and it was awesome.

I have this baseball.

It is a Joe Dimaggio League Ball which apparently would be found at spring training.

I took it to a sports shop years ago and the lady looked it up a bit w/ the signatures on it and placed it as a 1940 Yankees team.

Lefty Gomez can be seen there at the top as well as others.

No signs of a Dimaggio though. She did say that at times the more popular players were off to the side probably doing interviews and the like so one might miss out on them.

I believe she valued it at around $250-$300, late 90's or so.

Worked for the Dolphins in the early 90s.  Marlins' first season opener ever, against the Dodgers at Joe Robbie Stadium and I'm working in the ticket office doing Dolphins season tickets, before getting off at noon and going to the game.

Joe DiMaggio is to throw the first pitch and he's walking around the stadium burning up in the heat, so the PR idiots bring him into our office and sit him down at a conference table and we get him a Coca-Cola while he cools down.  He's 10' away looking at me at my desk in the corner.

Being into memorabilia, I had a dozen 'opening day' programs sitting at my desk, so I figure I'd approach him, since we were staring at each other and he's there by himself waiting to be told where to go.

He signs my opening day program kindly and I thank him.  The boss's kids asks the same and this time he begrudgingly signs one and then starts getting pissed, refusing to sign anything else.

He ends up leaving, I run home and pick up my dad, uncle and cousin and we head back to the game, where the Marlins won.

My best bud in the office was a bigger collector than I and was out of the office at the time, so a year later, he has a roommate trade me a brand new in box, 870 Police Magnum with Davis SpeedFeed stock straight up.

I still have the shotgun.
