Its hitting the working class families really hard around the pittsburgh area recently I heard they had 3 od's in one day in the same bathroom at a sheetz gas station I personally know one person who died from an od and his sister almost bit the dust too recently It's everywhere. ..gotta watch out for discarded Needles in some areas as far as what's causing the overdoses I think people who have been using for years are getting a hold of stronger batches and accidentally overdosing you also have a segment of those same people who will seek out the more powerful stuff that's killing people simply for a stronger High thirdly you have people who get out of jail and have no idea that they may be getting their hands on something so powerful as to kill them |

I have known a whole lot of people who had it made in life either lose it all or die from going to pills to H.
I also know people who would like to go out on weekends and drink and pop a few pills now and then and never moved on to the heavier stuff. I have had prescriptions for pain meds and take as small amount as possible and whatever isn't used I store in a lockbox in my safe to keep it away from others. When it first started to get big a coworker and I were talking about it at schools on the west side suburbs of Cleveland, a coworker lived there and he got pissed at us and called us liars and that it wasn't a issue and we are just jealous that we don't live in such a nice and rich city as his. A few days later it was all over the news that 3 or 4 kids in the highschool OD'd and some H was found in a back of a middle school kid. He didn't say a word to us about it and it just proved our point that the shit is everywhere no matter what size the town is or the class of people that live there. it can effect people from all walks of life and doesn't matter if you are a bum on the street to a CEO of a major company with a supermodel wife. |

Local sheriff told me that they are definitely seeing an increase. With marijuana becoming legal state by state with the possibility of going national, there is less profit. Cartels are laying the foundation for the next profit product in the future.
Even drug lords know how to adapt to changing societal winds to find a profit. |

21 months ago when I had my thyroid surgery, they sent me home with a big bottle of Oxy tablets. I still have them in the safe minus two. Didn't like the way they made me feel, not euphoric, just...weird. Finished out my convalescence with just Motrin. Actually seemed better for the pain.
Since then I've started on an experimental drug to treat the cancer. Along with it comes several side effects, one of which is moderate to severe muscle cramps. The Doctor gave me Tramadol, which I understand is about as mild an opiate as you can get, but still habit forming. I end up taking one about every two or three days or so at bedtime, even though the script is for four a day. Never feel like I "need" to take one other than for treating pain. I know that somewhere down the line I'll be taking something, probably much stronger. By then I won't have to worry about "long term effects". |

Take a closer look at the geriatric population and you'll notice a theme. They know, and some times are told by their Doctors, that taking too many pain pills at once can cause them to go to sleep and never wake up again. When you're old with a million health problems and you die in your sleep nobody investigates it. Spend some time hanging out in a dialysis clinic or a wound treatment center and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Or visit someone who knows fairly certain that their dementia is going to turn them into a turnip long before they die. Lots of people are using their pain pills for a permanent cure. Unless you do a pill count as part of your initial investigation the Coroner is going to just tell you to release the body to the family and sign off on the death certificate. Bills paid up, dishes done, door left unlocked, house looks like it's ready for visitors... Who am I to judge? View Quote |

heroin should be legal. (and everything else)
if it was legal, people wouldnt commit crimes to get their fix. if it was legal, it would put the cartels out of the main source of income. if it was legal their would be no war on drugs that drains freedoms every day if it was legal less folks would die because the doses would be known. if it was legal, most likely the number of folks using it would be about the same. in all my years i found one thing to be true. folks who wanna use drugs use drugs. the only question is how they get them and what they do to get them. no one likes a drunk, no one likes a addict but making it legal wouldnt change the numbers of these folks but it would do less damage to society as a whole. folks often say, let darwin decide. i agree. actually darwin decides every day, but some people think you can changes the laws of darwin. but you cant. |

The thing about those prescription drugs like oxy is that if you take them long enough (and really it doesn't take long) you WILL become physically addicted to them. There is no "I like the buzz or I don't", no "I don't have an addictive personality", you simply will without exception become physically addicted to it. And your body will let you know it is not happy when you try to get off it. I know people that have taken oxy therapeutically after surgery and they had to ween themselves off it, one tried dropping them cold turkey and felt like dog shit, she realized she was going through withdrawals and had to resume taking them, splitting pills and lengthening time between doses until she could drop them completely. These were gals with absolutely no history of substance abuse. View Quote |

Instead of giving Narcan up the nose I say give everyone this tool: In the extreme case where a vein can’t be found and a person is in dire need of an immediate reversal of heroin’s effects, emergency crews utilize a small cordless power drill. They drill into their patient, either in the arm or the leg, directly into a bone. Then the drill is withdrawn, and a hollow needle is left for an IV to be placed into. I got an old big ass corded 1/2 drill. Which size bit do I use? View Quote |

No opioid problem in my country, plenty of drug use but.
You get the good pain relief in hospital, but very little is prescribed for home use. Cancer and the dying aside, good luck getting a script. And when they do they have to ring some number and record the details. |

Over 75% of the calls that make the weekly "police blotter" in the local papers and on the Sheriffs office Facebook feed are opiate related. |

Please educate me View Quote Because every physician knows that "FDA approved" does not mean "100% safe." In fact, there are FDA approved drugs that are very "unsafe" and their use must be considered with heavy risks in mind and that risk/benefit ratio must be weighed heavily. That very premise in the meme shows it was written by a clueless layman. Because not a single physician thinks Oxycontin is "100% safe." No physician thinks any drug is "100% safe." ALL physicians know that drugs have risk/benefit ratios that must be tailored to the individual case. It is so bad and common here that we just took a call of OD in a supermarket parking lot. Turned out to be a guy looking down at his phone reading something. The store employees first reaction to seeing someone seated in a car looking down was that they had OD'd.
Bear in mind that we are in an area that when we get a call of shooting, my FIRST thought is that someone is target shooting or hunting and it's a nothing call. |

I think his point is that the illegality of the drug is what makes it so expensive that people have to steal to get their fix. How much stealing would go on if heroin was as cheap as baking powder? Certainly some would as, at some point, the addict makes zero income, however, if the five bucks he got panhandling that morning keeps him high for a week, will he really need to break into your house to steal the silverware?
