Anyone here had to use a knife for self defense? I never have but usually have a knife that could be used if needed.

There was a big thread on this from a guy working in Hawaii that used his ZT to defend himself, stabbing the guy in the neck. Very interesting thread and he was put through the ringer.
No time right now to search for it. |

I defended myself from a steak last night. I cut that bitch 3 ways. Long, deep ,and repeatedly.

July 2007, after having a tractor trailer hit my car on the tail of the dragon, and finding out my grandmother went in to the hospital, i headed back home.
12 hour drive, 1 speeding ticket, and another warning and i was home. It is 12;30am and I exited my car with all my crap from the trip. I walk up to the entrance of my apartment building, 3 bigger than me yutes standing outside the entrance. I say "how ya doing" and they ask for my wallet, i said excuse me ?! Before i knew it one guy got behind me, hit me int he back of the head and snatched my glasses. At this point i whipped out my Benchmade AFCK (still carry it today), they saw me blade at 45 degrees and all three of them took off running. |

Friend from high school left a bar, followed by three people that apparently didn't like him. All three attacked him, he pulled out a knife and ended up stabbing one to death. Plenty of witnesses that said he was defending himself. Still charged with murder and went to trial. Not guilty. Great and all, but still cost him a lot to defend against the charge. He thinks had he shot the guy, he would likely not have been charged as he was. Using a knife is seen as more of a "hands on" thing I guess.

I don't have any self defense stories, only one of being assaulted with an edged weapon.
It gave me a healthy respect for them though, and how quickly they can turn a fight into your favor. Now I refuse to be without one, especially if I can't carry a handgun. |

This was decades ago (I graduated in 1982, this happened shortly after) I don't recall that sort of thing taking place at that time. Never heard any more about the whole thing except for from my friend, who still wishes he had just took a gun with him (illegal to carry then) instead of the knife (legal, Buck 110 I'm pretty sure, he always had one on his belt like the rest of us at the time ). |

This guy my dad met on a construction job once was jumped by a guy with a knife in NY state, he almost died from injuries, he ended up killing the guy that jumped him in self defense and went to jail for 15 years because of it.

Years ago I bought a Kabar TDI. Got home and put it on my duty belt behind my mag pouch. No one was at home so I took it in the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror. I was wearing just my house shorts, no shirt, and the duty belt. Rather than draw it at slow speed or even half speed I yanked that thing out as if I was going to light saber someone. I felt a burning sensation and saw The Thin Red Line across my stomach. About ten seconds later it looked like a scene from CSI. I called my wife and told her to not even come home until I could get the bleeding to stop and to clean up the bathroom.

When I was young and dumb I got involved with an older woman with a rough history. About six months in, her ex got out of jail, got himself loaded on meth and attacked me with a knife. I got slashed across the forearms as we struggled but managed to get him off balance and put him on the ground, at which point I ran the fuck away.
The scars still hurt, function is mostly all there but nerves don't grow back the same. The one thing everyone seems to agree on in knife fighting is you're going to get cut, I can tell you getting cut sucks. |

Knife fighting is an absolute last resort when shit has gone horribly sideways... youre not getting out of a knife fight without some serious damage.
It's why if anyone pulls a knife on me they're going to get shot. No way I'm getting fucking stabbed to death. |

Throwing knife story.
No sh*t, this really happened. Off duty deputy was in the subway station when he was stopped by two men. One asked, "Do you have the time." The deputy responds, "No." The first man then asks for spare change. The deputy immediately recognized what was happening and asked, "Do either of you two have a gun?" "No." "How about a knife?" "No." Deputy pulls out his knife and throws it down on the ground in front of their feet. He then says, "Pick it up." The two paused and realizing the set up said, "No thanks," before turning to walk away. The deputy retrieved his knife and goes to work. And that boys and girls is how a knife is properly thrown. |
|
No, but I used my Kershaw Leek to save 2 children. Their mom lost control of the car, went off the road & flipped over right in front of me. The car was smoking, I pulled out mom, then climbed in & cut the kids out of their car seats.
I had to sound like an advertisement, but the assist-opening made it quicker to cut the kids out, & close it so I didn't accidentally cut anyone, then pop it open to cut the next belt. Everyone was fine. Mom was yelling & overcompensated while turning to yell at the kids. I think these kind of stories are more likely than man to man combat. |

My buddy's Dad was married to one of his exes. They got into it and she grabbed a pistol from the night stand. All he had on him was a pocket knife, so he he pulled it and told her "Come on. Let's get it over with." She threw the gun and ran.
Got to hand it to him, he was going out balls out. |

We all carried knives when I was stationed in Germany.
This was when the Red Army Faction was around and they killed an Airman, using his ID card to drive onto a Post and blow up a car at the PX. I ran into some shady Turks one night dropping off my girlfriend. They had razors and I pulled out my German Hunting Knife the three of them decided to let me leave without any trouble. I guess they wanted to scare me and it backfired. Also in Germany. At a bar called Raffles ( for you old timers) a Ghurka killed a guy sitting on a bar stool by chopping his groin area with a Kukri. We were about twenty feet away in one of the few booths and got out before the police arrived. |

I've dabbled in martial arts throughout my life. Mostly Muay Thai and panantukan so empty hand stuff but usually added in weekend demos in other self defence techniques and after lessons with knife defence etc
I used to take my training knives to work and give my colleagues them. Tell them to attack me anyhow they wanted. In the gym yeah it all works really well. Give a guy a fake knife who doesn't know what you are going to do and isn't skilled guess what if that knife was real 9 out of 10 times I'd be bleeding. My word of advice. Don't get in a knife fight :) |
|
Maybe not what you were looking for.
My brother in a violent drunken rage came down on me with a hard vertical stab with a hunting knife. I saw the knife and knew what was coming. Caught his arm just below the wrist and pinned it to a wall. He had wrist movement available and managed to sink it into my hand pretty good. I got the knife off him and arranged for him to sleep it off. 12 stitches. |
|
I preemptively stabbed a drunk dude in the bricks at AIT when he was waving a knife around in my face and taking about how crazy he was. Does that count?
|
|
I've told it before on here. I got jumped by 3 guys I knew when I was 15 and stuck one of them puncturing his lung and somehow cut his forearm. I was charged with a whole paragraph of offences but when I went to court it was determined by the judge that it was self defense and dismissed. I still sometimes relive it in my dreams and it's been 35 years.
