Wild.
Drop it in a bucket of kerosene for a day or so, and try to get the slide to break free with a rubber mallet. If you can get it taken down you can give it the electrolysis treatment and have a wild looking wasteland type gun. Edit: Find out of it's loaded before smacking it with a mallet or trying to take it down. That would be a weird news story getting shot by rip van winkles handgun. |

Those are worth a pretty penny now, and nice guns to boot.
Should clean up pretty well, slap new springs in and make a great plinker. Just don't set it down on a stump and forget it. |

I only find boxes of used up porn and dead critters
Looks like a fun project! |

I would love to see it in that condition as well rather than restoring completely. |

Turn it in to the police. Might be reported lost or stolen. Theft of lost or mislaid property.
Just saying. |
|
Was it used in a crime? Could be the evidence that puts someone away. Or make a cold case hot again.

... funny, tangentially, I just found a $100 bill on the floor of the hotel bar
|
|
Put a dowel down the barrel to see if there's anything in the chamber.
Would probably run it through your local LEA as well, could be the piece that solves a cold case. |

got the safety lever to move and got the slide back about an 1/8th inch.
looks unloaded. |

It will clean up into a good shooter. Not in bad shape considering where it was found
Looks like it may be a 3rd model. |

I noticed that the grip screw and escutcheon are present still. If the stocks were gone, I can see the screw still being there, but the escutcheon? That is part of the stock.
Something removed the grips (plastic or wood) but left the screw and escutcheon. Very odd. Fire? Termites? I'd try and find the owner first. If nothing comes of that, it looks like it could be restored. I've seen worse come back to full use. |

Damn, that's a cool find.
I never find cool stuff in the woods. Soak it in penetrating oil overnight and I'll bet some of those parts loosen up. |
|
gonna have the #s run with TPD, if they dont find anything on it then its getting restored.
or i can restore it, then run the serial then charge the owner who lost it a restoration fee |

Nice find, that was one of my grail guns until I gave up trying to find a nice one and settled on High Standards.
What the hell is "fat wood"? Inquiring desert-rat minds want to know. |

Damn, that's cool find. I never find cool stuff in the woods. View Quote All I ever find is old tires. It's weird too. Like walking through a block of state owned forest, maybe 1/2 mile or more off any roadway to just stumble onto a tire. Who the hell drags one old tire 1/2 mile into the woods? I was 5-6 miles into the Adirondacks once at a nice lake, no vehicle access, but you can get sleds and ATV's up the trail if someone wanted to. We found a spot where someone had a small camp set up years and years ago. Like 5 old tires just laying behind the busted up shack, no apparent reason. |

I wish I lived in America where guns grow on trees and out of the ground. Nice find, OP.

OP, I have never used This Product but several reliable, trusted friends swear it is nothing short of magic on rust.
Also, to the pitting, once the gun is pitted to that extent, it's a shooter, and I like my guns to be decent looking, so I'm not afraid to do some serious sanding and bluing tpo bring them back. You would be surprised how many pits you can file or sand out without changing the essential dimensions of the gun, and rust bluing is a very user friendly, non-toxic way for the home enthusiast to restore a nice black finish to steel guns. Just one example of a few I've restored. Fire damaged 94 Attached File Lots of sandpaper Attached File Rust blued and shootable. Original Receiver, hammer, trigger, cartridge tube, rear sight, barrel bands, follower were used, barrel, bolt, blocking bolt , cartridge lifter, screws and springs were replaced. In to see the restoration. Attached File |

If you search here, there was a great thread a few years ago that went step by step through using electrolysis to remove rust. Came out very well. Your find is in even better condition from what I recall. Should clean up nicely.
