Even the fanciest casinos: Skeevy zombies / trashy people smoking cigarettes and mindlessly plopping down money it doesn't look like they have.
You know that grody feeling you have when you're in an airport for a few hours and you just want to get out? Casinos feel the same way to me. I don't get the gambling addiction at all. It seems frivolous, even as someone with disposable income. I get zero thrill / high from it. There's not enough "chasing the dragon" or carrot-on-a-stick for me. I have nothing morally or otherwise against it, naturally, I just think it's a shitty form of entertainment. |

Personally, I like casinos; they usually have ARESOME decore, killer restaurants, and you can get ANY luxury known to man in them. Oh, and did I mention the shows?
Oh, and I guess they have gambling or something, don't they? Onct in a blue moon, I'll play the nickle slots. $20 is an entire nights' entertainment. |

Lol
My wife and I just went to the boat two weeks ago. Had to dodge the walkers and scooters Now I know where the disabled are spending their checks at |

Well, you're not gonna bang an eight thousand dollar hooker in a $50 motel room.

Evidently you need to pick a better class of casino OP..As for gambling, life itself is an everyday gamble....

Always because I get roped into going with friends or family. If it's not a standalone casino / resort (which are the worst,) I can deal with it because in Vegas or Reno you can go outside and do other stuff. Even the swankiest casinos are still full of chain smoking Chinese tourists, trashy white people, and assorted other miscreants. Facts are facts. I'm sure there's casinos in places like Monaco with all ritzy people, ones in the U.S. are not like that. |

Casinos attract the finest sort, truly the cream of humanity.

I like it, with a pair of golf shoes for good footing it is great fun. Reptiles, and some one is giving them booze!
|

Never been in one. But I've heard they cater to addicitons.
Heard they don't put clocks in the casinos and have little or no windows so people don't keep track of time. It's all about that next pull or hand of cards. And of course they allow smoking, don't want someone leaving the casino to feed a different addiction. Just work off both. |

I had the same epiffiny, my first time.
It's mostly old people, and other fsa. I get paid to go. Goddamn good thing i aint no degenerate gambler. |
|
I do it a couple of times a year and have an absolute blast. Also there is NO WAY most casino's are as seedy as walmarts.

Wife got two nights "free" at Winstar. Any excuse away from the kids is fine with me. I wasted $20 pretty quick and had no enjoyment "gambling". I also saw no one smiling, just sitting and smoking or wandering around. I think my wife dropped $30.
I'd still go back for free if the beds didn't feel like they were poured out of a cement truck I buy a lottery ticket or two every week. It's throwing away $1-2 each time, but I can think about winning for a day or two. Casino is blink, you won/lost. |

View Quote I live in one of the most expensive places in the world. Doesn't mean I want to waste my money gambling. |

You're right.
My housekeeper cleans our house twice a month, takes the cash, goes to a local casino, and plays the slots. She's stupid. That's why she's cleaning houses -and- that's why she's blowing her cash at the casino. |

I went to Hoosier park casino in Anderson and it was freaking nasty. They had a non smoking section to play slots but it was tiny and still stunk like cigarette smoke. The carpet was nasty and completely stunk. We tried their buffet and for two people it was 45.00 with a coupon and the food was nasty and selection was pitiful.
If this is was casinos are supposed to be I guess I'll not have to worry about giving them my money. |
|
Overall I'd mostly agree, but some are better than others. I'm actually about to go play some
blackjack right now at the casino near me. There's no slot machines there, and I've noticed that tends to keep the worst type of people away. |
|
They don't build big, beautiful, luxury hotels by giving money away.

I love casinos - don't like them then don't go. Be in Vegas next week for work and staying in a Casino. I prefer the smaller local casinos and stay away from the bigger names.

I went to Vegas for SHOT this year. I hated the whole casino scene and how expensive everything was. I will not be going back ever.
|
|
|
I went there last month. Zombies everywhere. I hated all the smoke.
|
|
I've only been to Foxwoods but it was not anywhere near as bad as OP described.

For a large part of the last few years, I flew along on casino charter flights, and spent a ton of time in casino hotels on layovers.
I don't get it. I genuinely don't get it. Good business for the company though. |
|
I occasionally stay at them when traveling. They typically offer very cheap room rates during the week and the rooms are nice. I don't get into the gambling. I have stayed two nights at a casino hotel before and never stepped foot on the game floor.

The really sad thing is, they have much better odds than the stupid PowerBall.
many orders of magnitude better. |
|
I went into one, blew 20 tokens real quick and said - this is really stupid. The first and the last time. 15 years ago.
|
|
Not my thing. I've never understood it. My parents on the other hand love it and go a couple times a week. It's been my experience that money that comes easy always goes easy.

Wife and I just spent 3 days in Vegas. We spent a whopping $100 on gambling. Our room was something ridiculous like $99 a night and we hit the Spa at Caeser's twice, ate at a couple of killer restaurants, went to the Monte Cristo cigar lounge, and smoked cigars and drank and met and talked to people from all over and had a blast.
Then we went home. |

I would love to read a book on the psychology of casino design. Like there aren't clocks, confusing pathways, etc.
