Tell you what, you buy a bike with all of the bells and whistles and you get it cranked over in a corner on the gas and then let go of the handlebars and pull your feet off the pegs and then you come back to us and ask that stupid question again.

So your point is if you jump off a moving motorcycle you may get hurt ?
Talking about stupid....

The point is that the bike can't ride it itself. If you remove control by letting go of the bars and taking your feel off the pegs to keep you from transferring weight to the chassis, the bike won't finish a corner.

Can you still do stoppies and make long ass skid marks with an ABS equipped bike?

I'm a fan of old schoolish, but with a radio and good seats. Maybe throw in some nice shocks. I'm a huge fan of the street glide but that's just me

I just got the rider aids this last fall. Its all about the bikes you associate with. I was fine with my KLR but then I got the BMW. Boom...rider aids.

If I had had ABS on my Shadow, I probably would not have went down and fractured my shoulder last December.

Wet roads, 65 degrees and sunny, three or so car lengths behind the truck that I was following. The light turned yellow, I rolled off the throttle and prepared to stop. The woman driving the truck decided to stop for the yellow light. When I hit the brakes, both wheels locked up. I let go of the front brake and was going to ride out the skid on the rear. At that point, I noticed that I was going to run into the truck, so I lined the wheels up, let off the rear brake, and tried to swerve around the truck. When I dipped into the swerve, the rear end slid out from under me and I highsided onto my right shoulder.

I have since traded the Shadow for a 2017 Indian Roadmaster, which has more bells and whistles than you can shake a stick at.

Your long post kinda makes the point I was trying to make for me.
Since you are just making requests and the bike makes the decision whether to carry out those requests, are you really riding the bike or are you just along for the ride ?

Well the motoGP bikes have the very best and most up to date electronics on them and yet sometimes different guys on different bikes win.

Obviously they are just monkeys sitting on a robot.

I didn't think I really needed to quote the entire thread, I figured that you could follow along with your own thread.

Let me help you out:

You asked the question:

If you have to ask the question...
I answered your question by telling you to gather the data by yourself by trial and the process of elimination.
Nothing more, nothing less.

On my BMW S1000XR I can shut off all of the nanny aids except for the electronic suspension control.
No wheelie control, no abs, no traction control, no lean angle sensor.

Pretty soon you won't be able to buy a bike without rider aids.
By 2018 ABS and Fuel Injection will be standard on all 2018 and newer street bikes.

So will mine in a few weeks... I bought a set of S21's almost right after, I wanted to finish off the rear before I pulled them both to powder coat the wheels this winter. The problem was, winter never really came, so when my ECU came back from flashing (Xmas was great, got the most awesome GF in the whole wide world) I took it out and it spun up so much from being cold I was thru to the steel cords in about 15 minutes worth of riding in an unfinished development outside my neighborhood.

Hell, even my GF's Grom has EFI, and it's better for it.

If you have never had an EFI bike, you don't know what you are missing..

Right now, both street bikes I own are air-cooled, carb'd and one even has points ignition and a drum rear brake.
But both the bikes I really want right now have all the farkles (excluding CC, which can be added with an aftermarket programming device - RBW is way cool).

I have no problem with these gizmos. They make riding safer and are generally not intrusive.

My Thruxton R has all of those and is great.

The multiple riding modes is just for when it's raining really.

Love that Thruxton R. My '15 Speed Triple has ABS, but no traction control or rider modes. I wouldn't mind having them but I've been fine without.

Have you seen the new Street Triple 765? They threw the book at it, if I didn't already have a bike payment I'd be putting a deposit on one tomorrow.

In 5 weeks I'll pick up my '17 Honda Africa Twin with DCT.

My two current bikes are old school technology, XR650R and a DR 650.  The DR at least has electric start.

This was me. 53 bikes over the last 35 years, all kinds street and dirt (except for cruisers!), and I never had ABS. The last one, a 2012 KTM 990SMT had ABS and I think I had it two months before the ABS saved my ass by keeping my upright. I will never poo poo ABS again on a road bike.

Sold the SMT last week, this is on order:

I'm fitting up the ultra high tech rear brakes on a period correct cafe racer I'm building. There's no need for ABS on a 70s Yamaha, reef down as hard as you want and they're not going to lock up anyway

I ride a 2006 SV650.  I love EFI coming from bikes with carbs, but I don't have any features outside of that.  I think ABS would be nice to have.

Outside of that I could take it or leave it.  My old man has a 2016 Road Glide.  It has so many features he gets over whelmed.

I'm sure if I had them I could learn to love them.  Just like I never knew I needed seat heaters until I bought a car that has them.
