In the great words of Dugan Ashley, guns, like airplanes, go in a circle.

Beautiful, OK, Ugly, Ugly, Beautiful. The A1 Skyraider fits in there somewhere...

That's the story they tell.  The engines last a loooooong time at the power rating they used, I know that.

Bet that 707 is fast with those engines.

The -135 certainly is, I'm sure the 707 is as well.  Saudi awacs have CFMs on them and they are 707 frames.

Did they have to derate those engines a bit seeing as how the wings weren't meant to handle that sort of power?

When they do an engine change on 135s, MX looks at each other with a deer in the headlight look. They can't remember how.

In 7 months working for them in the Died they did one engine change. Due to FOD.

Detroit ANG F-4C's were beautiful.

Those were some beautiful Phantoms.  Immaculately clean, glossy air defense grey with the checkerboard intake splitters and tails was very tasteful.

If I was a billionaire, I'd have my own personal Flanker, as close to 711-White (Su-37 Terminator) spec as possible... Though, with my own custom livery, because that shit-banana schema they had her in was atrocious....

Much sexy...

The last deployment I was on to the died we did 6, but it was summer and most were for overtemps. One for FOD damage.

I tripped across this video today that details the XB-70 test program.  Pretty good video quality for converted film from the 1960s.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aoVFs5fdZI#t=2.9668125

Very cool!  My favorite airplane that never was.  Always worth a laugh to see them using the same exact B-2 stands we use everyday.

Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach got theirs in from MeierMotors in Germany last Spring. That thing sounds mean.

Pic I took of it's first flight in the US in May 2016.

Great shot!

And just for fun, I recolored with a sepia filter and seems like it could be 75 years ago somewhere over northern Germany minus the tail markings of course.

All photo credits are of course those of the original photographer!

They're still a ways off, but the main fuselage is structurally done. They said they should be mounting engines soon. I'm anxiously watching, because I want to be there too!

I was at Udvar-Hazy today and took some pictures of their Black Widow just for you. I'll try to post them up sometime after dinner tonight.

The Bugatti P100.  Sadly, the single flying replica burned in last August killing the lead pilot/project developer.

Would be pretty cool to have a fleet of those left over from the 60's, instead of the B-52s. Wish I could have seen that one fly.

Might have realized its potential with some good contemporary radial engines.  Every concept plane of the time that relied on some up and coming experimental liquid-cooled engine died in the design phase.
