I believe so. What were you thinking ? Calling some people's bluff ? View Quote Sounds like a good idea. There's more than one poster in here that's full of shit. I'm 6'0" 280lbs. I can bench 225lbs 2 or 3 times. I should be able to do more. I know there will be people that can lift more than me, but many more that say they can but actually can't. |

I finally did it for 20 last year. I suck at TnG bench so I was pretty stoked on it...I've paused 300x8, 315x7, and 385 in the gym, 375 in a meet. Still looking for my first 405
Got injured while squatting in a meet, subsequently got fat, and am now trying to get the bodyfat back down so my bench has taken a 10%ish hit |

At one time I could, can't anymore..working on getting some upper body strength back. When I was at my peak in the Army in 2006, I weighed 158lb (best I recall) I'm 6'2" and could bench that...but my body fat percentage was like 3%. And that would have been my max I assume. Never did find my true max but I did do 3 reps of 215 or so once so I'm sure at that time I could have do everything 1 rep of 10lb heavier? Now I'm 200lb and it's probably 13% lol... age and lack of exercise will do that in a hurry. this is incredibly delusional How so? I may have been closer to 165 by the end of the deployment which is when I did the 3 reps. We were doing PT twice a day since we had so much free time as 13 series being deployed as 88M driving M1000 HET's. When I enlisted I was all of 142lb. |

I have never had great upper body strength. I have been power lifting for just about a year. I did 5X5 for 30 weeks and am now doing 5/3/1. I am 6'3" and now 205 lbs, down from 250lbs. I have long arms, I can't bench worth a crap. My current 1 rep max is 185 lbs. View Quote I am your height, and always thought the same thing. My bench isn't impressive, but over time it sure has got better. I did the 5x5 and then a version a 5/3/1. My one rep max is now 270, whereas for YEARS I could hardly one rep max 185 without a spotter doing an up-right now to help me do that. Point being, for most of my 43 years of life, I just labeled myself as someone who "just sucked" at bench and after time it just got better. (with a proper program though, like what you are doing) |

If you can lift 225 it should be easy to video the lift with just a 1 rep lift using straight free weights- no machine lifts |

LOL
These threads are always amusing. FWIW, I can't right now. Shoulder injury playing hockey in December. |

currently i weigh 188. I've completed 250# 3 sets of 8. Currently working on 255 3x8.

Alright fellas. Lots of big talkers in this thread. Time to start posting proof. Let's see some videos of you benching 225lbs or more.

Many years ago I did when Arnold Swarzenegger and I used to work out at different gyms together.
|
|
|
225 is my warm up. I have been lifting for almost 20 years consistently though.

Never been great at bench, but can rep 225 at 3-4 reps. It bothers my left wrist/thumb, so I don't really do heavy bench anymore.
On chest day, I mostly hammer the DB press and flys, then finish with pushups of some sort. |

7 years ago I could, but a 3rd degree shoulder separation fucking ruined my bench. Can still DL 405-425 depending on how my spine feels. Squat is stuck at about 335. I am 6'5" about 215#. I was 192# when I benched 235 pulled 445 and squated 355. Not bad for a tall skinny fucker like me.

In the "used to back in the old days" camp. I was stronger than a garlic sandwich! One of my main goals in my nearing retirement is get back into the gym and get back into better shape. I know I'll never throw around black iron like I did in the old days, but it would sure feel good to get a good workout in. Work too many hours now to leave any gym time.

I weigh 200 and I pressed 305 twice last week.
225 is usually 9-10 reps. Going to start using a 45lb plate on my dips and pull/chin ups this week and it should cut my dips count down to about 8-9. |

8 to 10 X 225 now, just started working out again after a year off. My best, 25 times about twenty years ago, a year ago 12 to 15 times. My max was 365. Natural, never got any artificial help.

I partially tore my right pec benching 450 in a shirt a couple years back. The board presses allow me to train with heavy weight without putting myself in as much risk of tearing it completely. I think board presses are a very overlooked accessory for raw lifters |

Five years ago was doing 350. Today my Dr won't let me even do 5 lbs due to nerve injury. Up in the air if I will ever be able to really lift again
|

I'm 5'10", 185, and the last time I tried to rep 225 I think I did 22. I haven't benched with a free bar for a year or two since there's only a Smith machine in my gym and the guy who owned the Olympic bar took it with him when he left, but based on everything I know I could still probably do 20.
My all-time best was 385, probably at a body weight of 200 or so. I always wanted to get to 400 but I never did. I haven't done a one-rep max in many years but I'd guess maybe 335-355 now. No idea and no desire to try since it doesn't serve any purpose. |
|
Oh, and I'm sure there are plenty of guys here who can do this. It's not that hard (benching 225).
|
|
Not now, but did 275 when I weighed 145 in high school. 225 I would knock out a 10 set. I have never not gotten 205 but haven't tried since my late 30's. It was my thing for a long tome to hit the gym once a year, warm up with 135, 1 at 185, 1 at 205 and be done for a year. I've never been a very muscular person most people were surprised when they saw lift me at the gym.

View Quote The last time I posted in a bench press thread, he told me "stop being weak" so I did. My year end goal is 340-350 at 200lb bodyweight. I'm going to get there barring bad injury. ETA: I'm 37 now (38 in 6 months), and am at the same strength level and bodyweight as I was at 30. I do have an end of month goal of 315 or 3 reps at 295. That'll be a close one for me. |

I really don't know. I haven't bench pressed in years. Back when I was a gym rat, I could bench 315 though.
|
|
I have been trying to find it, but wasn't there a guy back in the day that just flat out looked like a little weenie but he could bench press CRAZY numbers?
Trying to think of his name, there was some funny stuff how he could hustle guys at the gym. |
|
I cannot.
Currently working toward 200, hope to hit that in the next few months. |
|
I can, and if I don't break something my 52 yr old fat ass will put up 280 lb today.....which will put me back 10-15 lbs over my body weight which should probably be no more than 185 lbs

Nothing special here. I can hit 225 15 to 20 times, depending on my efficiency. Best ever is 21 or 22 I think. Yes, I'm not a powerlifter and my form is basic bro form, no leg drive. Bench 315# X1 eta: that's 315. |

Before I re-injured my shoulder a few weeks ago, I was working out with 205 and could bench 225 three times. I figure I will be lifting 225 again by the end of March. Now I just need to get over this bacterial upper respiratory tract infection so I can get back in the gym.
|

Yes. It used to be part of my warm up weight. Since an arm injury (which required surgery) a year ago, I've shied away from doing heavy lifting. But, I'm still able to do 6-8 reps with 225 on flat bench.
