or am I just the only one.
Honestly I prefer the A1 and A2 buttstock to the collapsible. Part of it is that I can't stand the feeling of bare metal on my cheek. I'm planning on building a 16in midlength build next and am planning on putting a Cav Arms A1 buttstock on it Also I have long assed gorilla arms and like to shoot nose to charging handle |

[#1]
I actually love collapsible stocks, even with my monkey arms.
[#2]
I have A1/A2 stocks on about a third of my ARs, but a lot of that is because they are replicas. I prefer the collapsible stocks so I can adjust the length.
[#3]
I like collapsing stocks, but my cheek lands on the plastic stock, not the buffer tube. Try not craning your head so far for ward.

I've had a number of standard milspec stocks and now a few CTR stocks and a BCM Mod 0 stock...in every case I use them exclusively in the fully extended position. Now that said, I'm using them standing or seated at the range...im not doing tacticool 'operating' in my suburban townhouse community
Plenty of uses for collapsing stocks...CQB...inside vehicles...etc. So...I like having the option...and for some matches, if I am going to have the rifle on my sling for any length of time I usually collapse the stock to the shortest position because the rifle just gets in the way less I do prefer the magpul and BCM stocks over the old fashioned design. Much more sturdy in my opinion. |

[#6]
I have ace entry length stocks on 2 of my ar's and prefer them to my adjustable stocks.
[#7]
I'm 5' 1" if I stand up really straight I'd have a hard time with rifles if not for adjustable stocks. So, yeah, I like them.
I'm like a T Rex without the big head... thankfully. |
[#8]
I don't like most collapsible stocks, and I've tried 90% of them, from Vltor to Bravo Company. The only one that I like is the Magpul STR because it locks up solid and it has a great cheek weld. There don't really seem to be any drawbacks to it.

[#9]
I love the A2 stock. I have a lot of trigger time on full sized A2 rifles
I don't however want an A2 stock on a HD gun. I like the compactness of a collapsible stock for defensive purposes. |
[#10]
Don't hate 'em, but definitely prefer the A2 stock.
The A1 stock even. It's nice that everybody has alternatives now I guess |

I like fixed stocks. Currently have a couple a1 stocks on rifles, magpul moe rifle stock on one, and a magpul fixed carbine stock on another 14.5"

[#13]
there are a lot of guys that don't like flaccid 'stocks' and prefer them always erect.
[#14]
Your cheek rests on the reciever extension? I'm trying to picture in my mind how that happens and I come up with nuthin.
I don't mind a A1 on a 20" rifle, other than that I like adjustable stocks. |
[#15]
I use a fixed stock on my LR308. It's easier to sandbag it with a MOE fixed. The 15's get the telescoping stocks.
[#17]
When shooting my ctr stock is always extended. When im in a vehicle its collapsed. I dont cqb but if i did maybe half length? Idk lol

I never looked at a standard stock and thought: I really wish this was heavier, too long, and non adjustable.
[#20]
Nope, you're not the only one. I dislike the slight wobble on collapsible stocks, as well as the weird-feeling cheek weld. I prefer A1 stocks; the LOP is just right for me with or without armor.
[#21]
My biggest gripe with collapsible stocks is if they're loose enough the front of them can snag beard hairs. Otherwise they feel pretty good. I did install a fixed Magpul stock on my "precision" rig recently and I do have to say I really like the feel of it though.
[#23]
I prefer adjustable stocks. Which is to say, b5 sopmod or other tight fitting adjustable stock. Standard stuff is pretty awful.
[#24]
Don't hate them, but don't really need them.
Been swapping over all my collapsible stocks to fixed lately. Finally figured out that since I store my rifles in the safe with stocks extended all the way, take them out, collapse the stock to put in bag, take to range, open bag, extend stock all the way (gorilla arms, giraffe neck), shoot. Only time they are in any position other than fully extended was in the bag. Got longer bags. |
[#25]
I like both styles of butt Stocks. The main reason I like A1 rifle stock on my competition rifles because it is one less thing to fail and to forget to adjust. I also like that it seems more solid. I have the other half of my AR15's with adjustable stocks, mostly Magpul.
[#26]
I think a lot of hate for the ergonomics and/or ambivalence for the utility of collapsible stocks comes from people that shoulder AR's like weirdos.
[#27]
I prefer a folding stock to a collapsible stock anytime. A folding stock is usually a lot more sturdy and solid compared to most collapsing stocks. Take the folding stock on the FN FAL Paratrooper model or the folding stock on the Galil AR and ARM rifles. These stocks are as solid as a rock. The only collapsing stocks that I have on any of my rifles that are somewhat decent are the collapsing stocks on my PTR 91 .308 rifle and the MagPul UBR stock on my M16. The standard collapsing stock that comes standard on the Colt AR15 rifles are not very sturdy. Nor are the other MagPul collapsing stocks outside of the UBR.

I have a RRA Entry stock on a 16 inch AR.
I love the thing. I took a few classes in NC and Tenn. When it came time to stack your weapons in the rack it became a joke. Mine was too short to fit into the standard rack. Getting in and out of vehicles and clearing buildings you couldn't ask for a better stock. |
[#30]
I don't mind them.
I'm comfortable with the A1 stock and the A2 stock. I've had the CAR stock, M4, CTR and MOE. And like them all but I also set them to the fifth hole rather than all the way out. |

I like fixed stocks. All my AR's and M16's (except for three) have A1 stocks. (I find the A2 stock to be too long.) The exceptions are two early AR's, from 1968 and 1970 respectively, that have their original pre-A1 stocks, and one XM177 clone that has the Colt vinyl-clad aluminum collapsible stock.

[#34]
My only fixed stock guns are a shotgun from 1902 and my dad's Mauser.
All other rifles have a milspec buffer tube and most likely a SOPMOD |

Like em, though I had to modify my "precision" rifle M4 stock so it wouldn't collapse when on a bag.

My pet peeve is collapsible stocks tend to grab and tear out my beard hairs. I hate when that happens.
[#44]
I wrote a rant about everyone bolting M4 stocks onto every possible platform from AKs, SKSs to Garands and (in what prompted my thread) a fucktarded lever action Mossy.
Also had a stick up my butt about cheese grater quad rails. I take it as a compliment to my sense of functional aesthetics that both of these trends have lessened in the years since. The new rail systems are a zillion times better, and an AK pattern rifle (not having a buffer and bolt that recoils beyond the receiver) does not need a tube based collapsible stock. |
[#45]
These things are very much personal preference, and that's all.

Collapsible stocks all the way because body armor. Hate when they pull out facial hair though. Meh, small price to pay. Also like pistol grips with checkering so sharp it hurts, front strap and main spring housings with the same and cheese grater rails.
