This is the Sacramento river taken from an Amtrak yesterday. The river runs about 30 miles or so west of the dam. I'm not sure what part of the track/river area this was taken though. Just kind of showing how much rain that whole area has been getting through is if this dam gets fucked it could really start dicking up all sorts of other areas. http://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/173545/16586941-883954421746778-5252959300090985997-o-144735.jpg View Quote Wow. I don't think the emergency spillway is functioning like they thought it would. The washed out section of the primary spillway has created an alternate path for the emergency spillway outflow. Since the emergency spillway appears to be soil covered bedrock that slopes towards the primary spillway, the outflow will wash away the soil and follow the path of least resistance. I'm just spit balling here. View Quote Sounds logical to me. |

OP needs a Honda EU1000 genny to keep his phone charged. You did bring a genny, sammiches and sunscreen yes?

Has OP realized he is sitting right under the power lines that could potentially fall?

Why have none of you acquired satellite assets in place to live aerial stream? Should be easy-peasy.

And I haven't seen even one silt fence, no haybales, nada. EPA is gonna have a field day with these guys, if an inspector ever shows up. They will shut the whole site down. Uncontrolled water runoff - not on MY watch. Shut that water off, NOW. View Quote EPA are probably afraid to turn up in case they get blamed... The SWPPP comment was kind of funny though... |

Has OP realized he is sitting right under the power lines that could potentially fall? He said that the power is off the Generators are possibly under water. If the turbines and generators are underwater, that place is going to have some UUUUGE expenses coming up and be offline for months and months. |

Did that guy just say they are going to blast the area below the main and emergency spillways to keep the channel clear?

Looks like the input is trending down.
But there's still one hell of a disparity between input and output. Link |

Useless information for geeks...
Potential Energy is a Bitch with this dam in particular. Potential energy = weight * height. 1 ft³ water ˜ 63.3 pounds With 900-230 = 670 ft, the potential energy is 63.3 • 670 = 42,411 foot pounds for each cubic foot of water. There are roughly 50,000 extra cubic feet of water per second at 900 ft, or 2.1 Giga Foot Pounds of potential energy turning into dynamic energy every second. For the water itself, There area roughly 3 million (3,165,000) pounds of it per second, at the top or bottom, that WILL move. The height only adds a shitload of velocity to that weight, and as we are shooters, we know that E=mv², so for every doubling of velocity, the energy that needs to be dissipated goes up by a factor of 4. This is why "This One" is so much more risky than something like a 200 ft dam flowing over. One extra butterfly flap and it's Catastrophe Weekend. Will be catastrophe spring for sure, due to their mis-management, there'll be a few documentaries due to downstream dam failures and damage. Since they can't shut off the flow now, all everybody can do is watch, and hope there's a lot of bedrock and a little dirt, instead of the other way around. Which I think there is, otherwise a different location to create a dam would have been chosen. If you've never been next to flow like this, the ground shakes, like a rocket launch. It's awe inspiring. That vibration can also cause unpredictable things (little butterflies). Let's all hope it just remains a pretty cool shit show to watch. They've chosen to damage the dam face, it'll need to be drawn down for a year or three and a ton of rebuilding done after this, not just the former ramp. |

Not to doom and gloom this, but the last thing California needs right now is an earthquake to cause a liquefaction event with all that saturated land.
It will make the 1989 disaster look like child's play. |
