It looks very close to my property in TN. I seen partial eclipses before, but I don't think I've seen a total. Might have to head up that way.

The point of greatest duration is supposed to be about 40 miles west of me. Near Carbondale, IL.  I plan on going there.  The path of the next eclipse in 2024 will intersect this one in Carbondale as well.

I was lucky enough to see one in Colombia. A friends family chartered a bus for his family and freiends. We drove for 3ish hours to some small no name town practically in the jungle. It was cool, when it went dark all and mean all the birds lost their shit. From every tree all the birds took off squawking "wtf....WTF!!" Then when the light came back they all shut up and landed back in their trees.

I'm planning to take the day off and see it. Hopefully the weather cooperates. Kind of nice that I can be in the 100% covered within an hour from here.

I have it coming right over my house.  I have already forecasted leave for the day.

If you are in the southeast and want to meet up, I have a great spot picked out.  I just have to hope for GREAT clear weather.  PM me if you want to join me.

Sumter SC area.  Dab smack down the pipe for totality.

How does an eclipse come over your house?

We have a family beach house in Lincoln City, Oregon.  It's right in the path of totality and the first landfall in the US as far as I know.   I'll be there a few days ahead to keep an eye on things and just hang out.

I'll be 70 this year, so this might be one of my last chances and something I've always really wanted to experience.  I hope it's clear, but in August there is a good chance for clear skies compared to the rest of the year in Western Oregon.

I'm in!

I've been looking forward to this for some time.  I signed up last year for vacation so I can go to the path of totality.

It's going to be a 5 hour drive for me.  I'm heading to Hopkinsville KY to check it out.

The next day I think I'm going to head over to Loretto, KY to tour the Maker's Mark distillery.

I have been looking forward to seeing a total eclipse ever since i stumbled upon a website which had all the dates of eclipses past and future 10 years ago. Told my employer last  August that one year from now i will be here on the 21st. Dont think any of them understand what a total solar eclipse is as none of them have seen one. When they think of eclipse they think the partial eclipses that happen to be seen by more people that are not that big of deal.

Me and a couple buddies are seriously contemplating doing a "brocation" to go see it.  Trying to decide the best place.  I may never get to see it again.

My house is right along the path of totality.  I get around 2 minutes, 15 seconds of total eclipse viewing pleasure.

I'm totally geeked!

Definitely worth going. My hometown was a prime viewing spot when I was in high school. People came from all over the world. Cool celebration.  It was a milestone in my life. I highly recommend going if you can.

I get  1m 54.5s of darkness here in Salem Oregon.  If you plan to go to the Beach in Oregon for the event, please remember depending upon the weather you could very well be socked in by fog.  Ocean is cold, land is hot, no wind equals thick fog.

Beatrice, NE........hotels are filling up in the area
Also, Valentine, NE is a big star gazer location but maybe not for the eclipse.

I'm considering going to Oregon with my daughter and her boyfriend.
There aren't any rooms to be had, but spending the night before in the National Forest east of Salem would work. In fact, I'd prefer that.

The one in '84 came right over us.  I remember we watched it on the local news in class, because they didn't want a bunch of elementary school kids staring at the sun.    But we did have windows, and it was cool to be able to see it get dark outside in the middle of the day.

This time, the full shadow will pass by about 2 hours drive away.  I will seriously consider making the trip.

I remember the one in the 80's. This one will pass right over us here.

Plenty of eclipse-watching info here: http://www.skyandtelescope.com/?s=2017+eclipse&submit=

Keep track of the weather in the days leading up to the eclipse so you can chose a spot(s) with low probability of being clouded over. Also, get suitable eye protection.
