The ones from the vet are $$$$$ so I was wondering if the glucosamine supplements intended for humans, such as the kind I can buy at Costco in bulk, would work for her.  She's a 9 year old lab/GSD mix and weighs about the same as a small female human adult (90lbs or so).

Your dog doesn't understand what it is so the placebo effect will be lost on it.

Look at the Cosequin for dogs, it's available from many vendors. That's what I got for one of our cats, cat version though. Was not very expensive through Amazon.

Find a local source / butcher etcetera for chicken feet. Give your dog one every day as
a post meal treat. They sell them by the case in 40 lb boxes that can be kept in the
freezer. It's better for your pet than the processed expensive crap in tablet form and
your dog will definitely prefer the real thing.

My GSD takes Dasuquin. It has really improved his mobility. It's a chewable snack type supplement.

Tractor supply sells "4health" large breed dog food. Has a lot of glucosamine and chondroitin in it already. That's what I give my dag.

I got Pet OPC3 for my brother's dog.  She went from walking slow to being able to climb onto the sofa again.  Then she walked faster and within two months she was running like when she was young.  It's a powder you mix into their water.

My Ortho vet keeps it simple, and said to buy any of them, and give my dog a human adult dosage.

Consider antiinflammatories as well.  Vets like to push rimadyl, meloxicam works just as well, at 1/10th the price.

We use dasuquin from chewys.com, really not priced badly especially since the dog thinks he's getting treats (he spits meds out no matter what they are mixed with).

I give our gsd regular human ones or doggie ones, makes no difference.  For picky dogs, try breaking off a chunk of hot dog and shoving the pill in the middle.  Down the hatch, every time.
