I missed 1 time. I know its hard to believe but I actually did miss. I was prone on the bench at 100 and it was close but I am sure the target moved. thats the only time I have ever missed

Killed a standing on haunches rabbit at 60+ yards with a 20 ga, probably #6 shot (decades ago).  Not one piece of shot in body.

When I was 19, I did a guy in Laos from a thousand yards out. It was a rifle shot in high wind. Maybe eight or even ten guys in the world could have made that shot. It's the only thing I was ever good at.

The SHOTS that remember most.

I wanted to try and shoot like the movies
A pistol in each hand. 16 rounds each gun.  2' x 2' target about 15 yards away.
Drew the guns and fired as fast as I could. I think I hit the target 5 times.
It was bad.

300yds on a 20" plate. Ona dare with some Kentucky windage I shot at it with my 1911 w/octane 45. Hit once, made a bet on a 2nd shot, hit it again, put pistol away.

Crow at 225 yards. Kneeling supported on the side of a round bale with my carbine and Eotech. Not too impressive, but I was pretty suprised when it dropped.

BB gun with a broken scope...25 yards, hit a crow hanging on a power line.

Shot thinking there was 0 chance id hit it. Wrong. I hit it, it squawked, tried to fly and just fell straight down onto the pavement. All of a sudden 2-3 other crows swooped down to mourne the loss of a brother/father/son.

felt kinda bad tbh.

Best single shot was an off hand shot at a cottontail while coyote hunting in Arizona.  I was using an NEF Handi Rifle in 223.  Got him in the shoulder and blew a hole out his neck. I was able use all the meat except the one shoulder.  I paced it off at 65 yards.

Me and my best friend were lounging around on a bank of the Brazos river (we were 15 or 16 at the time), bored. His dad's little flat bottom boat had an old CB radio antenna still mounted on it.

Just a plain antenna with the tiny little ball on the end. Boat was about 20 feet from where we were basically laying down on our backs. We had my Marlin 39 A with us and I said I bet I could hit that little ball. Gave him the rifle and said to try 5 shots. He did, missed them all.

I took it back, not expecting to hit it either. 1st shot took that thing right the hell off.

He was amazed. I was too but, hey man.. I told you I'd do it.

A running rabbit at 50 yards with a compound bow while drunk off my ass.  Center punched the little bastard.  Arrow went through and into the ground and left him half dangling from the shaft.

Not a shot but a series. I was shooting an IPSC match and had a half round array of targets. I was in a zone and hit all of them as fast as I could pull the trigger. One of those zen moments. Everyone watching was just standing there like they saw a ghost. I am not that good but I was then

Outer pellet/drag shot hit him somewhere in the head.  Didn't see any blood, eyes weren't deformed.  That, or he died from heart failure.

Buddy and I spring bear hunting, we get separated and he takes 2 shots on a nice grizzly and jams his gun, I come a running on my sled and he points where the bear headed so I took off after it...it runs out on a narrow spine then drops over an edge I can't with my sled..so I jump off pull my Rem 700 in 300 rum and run to a rock cropping and get set up..knowing the bear is headed into an area that we can't access with sleds or on foot...bear is on a dead run about 1/2 way across the valley floor when I open fire...no time to range him I just guessed...3 shots 3 misses, and am down to the 3 spares I carry in my pocket...I figure I am hitting short because he is farther away, so I lead him more..4 th shot went in just right of the spine  just back from the hump and exited his chest ...and flattened him..he got up and now I had the range and the next one put him down for good... Distance..slightly over 650 yards....

I dropped an eight point buck.

After waiting a couple of minutes I walked to where he was laying, he was shaking a bit so I finished him off.

The thing is, we couldn't find the first shot.  The guy that processed the deer couldn't find the first shot.  So I dropped him without hitting him.

I was at a place called Miller's in Waynesville Ohio, and I was shooting an ATM with a shotgun. I heard a bizarre PING!! and felt the shotgun jolt in my hand.

A ricochet pellet came back and went back up the barrel of the shotgun. I moved the gun and the pellet came tumbling out. Put a nice mark on the bolt face.

Coyote running right to left at 400 yards.

Ft Knox knock down pistol range for quals during basic. 50 and 35 were up, 15 popped up. Engaged the closer threat. Hit the 15 in the neck the staggered 35 in the right shoulder. One round two targets fell. 50 for 50 with 49 rounds. DI was pissed I had an extra rnd left and he couldn't figure it out.

Yakima Firing Center. Skipped a 105mm training SABOT into a target panel from 2800 meters. Using the TC override. Right in the fucking turret ring.

M9 qual range a few years ago, a pair of targets pop up and the angle I'm standing puts both targets in a direct line with me.

I shoot the closest target and the bullet travels thru that pop up and registers a hit on the further target as well.

1 shot, 2 hits

(I now see that's not that uncommon )

12 years old, at the end of a dove shoot. Everybody was gathered up at the trucks counting birds. I had my 410 Full choke pump with me. A dove came flying towards us at an altitude that planes fly at. Everybody was saying, no way that bird can be hit as high as he is. I said what the heck, threw up my gun, and fired. That dove folded up DRT, and not only that, he dropped about 10 feet from the group! Mouths came open, and I got a lot of "atta boy's" from all the men.

Luckiest shot I ever made!

Standards stage at an IDPA match. Had the local Big Gun in our squad and the stage called for 2 to the body from retention, 1 to the head freestyle. I got all 3 shots from retention just riding the recoil up so it was hella quick.  Mr Big Gun said that would have been impressive if they were all from retention. The SO said they were! Couldn't do it again if I tried.

With a pellet rifle at age 16. I shot a black bird almost at the top of the far side of a tall pecan tree that was about 45 yards away. All that was visible of the bird was the head and shoulder. With an 8mph wind with an occasional gust. All things considered, including timing the shot with the slack of the wind, i fudged about 8 inches on windage and about 7 on elevation. I was aiming for center mass that was not in view, but i didn't worry because i knew the pellet would pass over and drop right in. I hit it just under the armpit making a soggy bloody hole!

I was surprised about ten years later reading up on breathing techniques for shooting that i was doing as a teen without ever getting instructions. I was just doing what it took. There wasn't that much luck at play. Some of my buddys at the time still bring up the shots i used to make back then.

Mule deer hunting several years ago. A 2 x 3 was coming right for me, pulled the trigger 30 feet from me. The 243 went through his mouth, missed teeth and tongue. The bullet went down the spinal column and did not exit the deer. No visible wound on the deer. He was DRT.
