I took a job a few months ago with one of the commercial space companies. We are launching our 3rd gen rocket in Feb/Mar pending FAA and DoD approval. After meeting with the payload integration engineer this morning, we were given the go ahead to put an AR-15 in there. Of course, we will have to have it taken apart and in order to save mass, no furniture will be added.
We did the research and found that as far we know, there has never been an American made gun sent to space, commercially. The Russians use to put a three barrel gun in the Cosmonauts survival pack so there is that, but that is all we found about small arms being in space. As for the "treaties" and ITAR, we already looked into it and will not be in violation. I think this will be an awesome project. I will try my best to keep everything updated with pictures up until launch. If you have questions I will do my best to answer. Here is a picture from our last launch. This is our ballute after deployment at about 75 miles up. Attached File Here is the engine test for the rocket we will be launching. Failed To Load Title |

Noooooooooooo!!!!! What if the aliens get it and obtain our technology???

when / if you get it back, assemble it into a rifle complete with furniture. The dilemma becomes sell it for $$$$ or present it to someone like the President (Trump, not O)
the 1st AR in space is a historic gun. I hope it has a unique serial # I'm assuming you will recover the payload? |

They are working on a .357 magnum AR as we speak, so yes... it will be a unique serial number. |

Use 2A Armaments Balistos Lite and titanium/low weight parts and you'll be able to put furniture on it.

I think this is an awesome idea... so not being a dick, but...
What is the point? Testing something, or just doing it for the lulz? Either way, I am 100% on board. |

I may throw a Sandman in there as well, pending space available. Might as well knock out the first can in space too.

Wow. Very interesting and cool. That pic is awesome.
I hope all goes well. Cheers! -JC |

Send up alchohol, the AR, a 1911, and bacon so you can go in the news as an American hero.

It has to be a Mega or an Aero Precision since they actually make parts for the aerospace industry.
