But that's not important right now. View Quote What is important is that i thought I saw a barrel chop test for the Grendel, but can't seem to find it. There's a 6.5CM test out there. I think LRRPB&J52 has some of those comparisons, but he's out freezing his nuts off with the scouts I guess. |

I think a 16 and a 10, but I don't remember the details. LRRPF has the picture too I think. |

Seems like around 12 is the most popular. what is the differences in common loads between 12" and 16" I was the guy who came up with the 12.5 inch length being the best. Bill did a 10.5, which works well, but I thought a 12.5 inch might make a better "all around" gun. I think it is hard to beat unless you are looking to go really short. I am a bit lazy tonight but here is a quick comparison between 12.5 and 16 inches with Wolf's 100 grain steel case load 12.5 inch...........2,341 16 inch..............2,496 20 inch..............2,600 please keep in mind Wolf's 100 grain steel case load is on the sedate side. Heavy handloads run considerably faster through my 12.5 inch gun. |

A very nice middle ground, If you can only have one get a 16 12.5" eastern hunting, still handy with a can,SD etc. 18 & 22-24 don't do much for me, you can't go wrong with Grendel anything but I feel the above are the best all around lengths. |

I found a great deal on a Lilja 18" with the 319 light under the hand guard profile and had it cut to 16" and profiled for the ops suppressor. It's getting a new stock then it's basically done and on to load development. |

All this SBR talk, making my head swim
12 inch shooting 129s, good expansion past 400 Yards? Heads explode(mine anyways) my 12.5 6.8 shoots 110 AB to 2250 FPS (handloads) Good barrier load, but that 129 Nosler in game from a 12 inch barrel, Holy S### At some point I'd like a 20 inch Lightweight barrel, and to build a 14.5 inch with a pinned brake just for wolf ammo. My first 18 inch SS barrel burned down at ~8k rounds(shoots 4 MOA plus now) Always aware of heat, P-dogs mainly Melonite from here on out. |

BTW, I went 18 based on the advice of a couple of guys who lugged both 14.5 and 20 inch rifles in the sandbox. They told me that the 20's were just a pain in the ass when dealing with vehicle transport. They claimed that they hung up on everything, but just barely caught all the door frames and such. So I got the longest barrel short of that. No idea how accurate their claims were, since I'm an old Cold Warrior, and they didn't give us regular fuckers XM173's, so all I ever got to play with were the full length M16's. |

Whole different kettle of fish ballistics wise. The 20" is somewhat cumbersome, the 18" is nice but not entirely necessary with the Grendel cartridge, the way it is with .223. See my other post for a $55 bolt, retail for comparable is nearly double. |

Well, I finally pulled the trigger to do a Grendel build. I got an Odin Works 18" intermediate length barrel, billet upper receiver, and the Odin Works 02 Lite rail, and Odin Works adjustable gas block. Not put together yet.
I wanted 18" as I would have a Griffin Arm. Recce 7 on the end. Odin Works 18" Intermediate kit. |

Confession...I'm a 6.8 guy, but I have a good friend that would benefit from owning a 6.5. He's not on this board and I'm not very knowledgeable about the who/what and how much of the Grendel world. So, what is currently the best option (in terms of cost and quality) for a fully assembled 6.5 upper with bolt?
