Way back when we were nearing peak incandescent light bulbs I would stock up on 60 and 75 watts bulbs when I saw them on the clearance end cap. This was back when the doom-n-gloomers were predicting Congress was going to ban incandescent, thus leaving us with those crappy CFLs or the uber expensive LEDs as our only options for home lighting.

I've always planned on migrating to LEDs but wanted a stash of incandescent to tide me over until LED prices came down. Now that LED bulbs are cheaper, and my stash of incandescent is almost gone, I'm ready to start making the switch. Just don't know which LEDs to get.

Mostly need some LEDs that match as close as possible the warm (not in temp, but color) glow that 60 & 75 watt incandescent put off.

Since I know didly-squat about LED light bulbs, I know the hive will come through and guide me through the maze of LED bulb buying.

Lowes has a six-pack of warm white 60 Watt equivalent bulbs for around $10. Check your local store for price. They're not dimmable, though. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-6-Pack-60W-Equivalent-Warm-White-A19-LED-Light-Fixture-Light-Bulb/50423208

I've been using them for somewhere around a year with no problems.

Soft white (2700K) Cree or Phillips.

$2 a bulb or lower is possible.   Get a couple to see what you think.

Actually, I think I'm going to run out of 60W's first. Probably in a year.

I'll have 100's and 75's for a long time. 5 years maybe?

Just an FYI that may not apply to you. If you're a HAM or shortwave listener, you might want to buy a single package of whatever bulbs look good and test them for RFI before you stock up on a bunch. Most of the current generation of LED bulbs are fine (especially the non-dimable ones), but there is still some noisy crap floating around out there. Caveat emptor.

Cree 4flow then.  NOT the cree tower bulbs.

I like the phillips bulbs for dimmers, but if you don't have them, I think the Cree is cheaper.

I have a decent stash of incandescents. My wife is sensitive to CFLs, gives her migraines.

We're trying out LEDs now that they've come down in price.

I've been using the Cree 4 flow bulbs from Home Depot for over a year now.

Keep the receipt and the UPC code from the package for the 10 year warranty - just in case.

My electric bill went down $10 - 15 a month. I mainly use the low setting on a 3 way Cree bulb (3 watts) and it's plenty of light watching TV.

Replaced "long life" cfl's more often than my incandescents.  That's why I went back to them.  And, at $1/box of 4, it's pretty cheap replacement. YMMV.

But you are using more electricity than you need to.  With $2 LEDs available, incandescents are not worth using.

Don't forget to look at how many lumens they put out. Some "60W equivalent" LEDs don't even come close to the light output of an actual 60W incandescent. To get the same actual light output, you might have to move up to a "100W equivalent", depending on the brand.

Costco has decent priced ones as well.

I've got them around the house and they produce light.  Dunno what else to say about them.  I do appreciate the reduced heat output as well.....

Why the hell would anyone willingly use incandescent or cfl bulbs?

Incandescent bulbs generate more heat then light, LEDs are so cheap and plentiful now.

Soft light bulbs for living spaces, daylight bulbs for garage and shop spaces. Done.

I really don't change bulbs that often with the incandescent..each 60-75 watt bulb lasts anywhere from 6-12 months. But since I'm out of 60-75 watt bulbs I'd rather go with the LEDs not so much for the lower energy usage, but less heat (or no heat) they generate.

Good to know. This is the type of info I need since I want an LED bulb that matches, as close as possible, to a good 'ole 60 watt incandescent.

60 watts is too dim.

I remember when the standard bulb was 100 watt incandescent.

I understand the drive to save energy led to going lower, 75, 60 etc.

But now that they're moving to efficient CFLs and LEDs, why the continued push down? Where are the cheap 100watt equivalent LEDs

I want my house bright.

You'd think so but I can count one 1 hand how many incandescent bulbs I have changed in the last 8 years.

That number is far less than the number of CFL's.

I just put in 8 Phillips 65W equivalent can light LED's though.  Now what to do with the 80 or so 65W incandescents I have...sigh.
