Seems like they are being used more and more especially in the Middle East hot spots.

30 caliber makes a lot more sense when you don't understand maneuvering or small unit tactics.

It's not like they have a choice in weapons. No AIM Surplus or DSG Arms to order from.

Iran had a ton of them from the time of the Shah. So I think a lot of them ended up in Kurd hands thanks to Iran....Could be wrong.

Most of the fighters in that part of the world do mag dumps with AK's so not really sure what you mean by training?

Size and weight isn't all that bad comparatively.

Reliability.

Soft shooting for a 762

Accurate enough.

Adjustable gas system on the fly

Easy to pop a mag out, throw a new one in, and hit the bolt release(ergonomics)

Finally hard hitting.

Instructor Zero has a YouTube series about wildlife rangers in Africa using FAL rifles on patrols. Episode 2 dropped a few days ago. This thread and those videos make me want a FAL.

They can be finicky with ammo is the one thing I see as an issue apart from that.......

They are using them because it's what they have not what's best.
If you want a DMR use something in 6.5 creedmore. There are much better options than .308

Also lol at the "sniper" in the second pic with his barrel hanging out the loophole.

Perhaps. You likely know FALs better than I do. I personally have not ran into that issue.

Mine has ate everything as of late. Tula, wolf, Hirtenberger, some german stuff that the headstamp has been sanitized(although I had to crank up the gas for this stuff)

It by no means is my first pick. But if that's what I had I wouldn't be upset in the slightest. I suppose of the major battle rifles its the one I trust and like. I do not care for the G3 series what so ever

Love the welded on scope mount, on the FAL dust cover. Wonder how straight that is!

Wonder if a genuine FN, or a foreign contract.

At least within Iraq, costs of firearms available to civilians varies widely: G19's were suppled the IDF by the US, and these having made their way onto the black market routinely sell for $2k plus. Select fire Aug A-1s, M16A4"s, HK MP5k's also about $2k. Many HK G3's dating from the time frame of the Iraq/Iran War are still in use. I have no knowledge of their current black market pricing.

True, but I don't know enough of the history of what went where. From what I can tell, it looks like 4 different models of FALs in those pics.

Well that's concerning considering that's basically what I like to blast away with in my FAL

I would have to assume their headspacing was off or a wore shoulder that would make the steel case burst.

Any speculation as to what happened?

Third-world goat-raper problems.

We can chamber DMRs in excellent cartridges here in the civilized world, and 6.5C beats 7.62x51 like the red headed stepchild of a rented mule.
