Christmas is right around the corner. The complete set can be yours for only $61 paperback/$112 hardcover on Amazon. This and the Calvin & Hobbes set are part of my end of the world/long term power outage library.

My favorite cartoon.

Close second for me, right after Calvin and Hobbes (of course).  I always saved them to read last when looking at the funny pages.

C&H, Far Side and Bloom County made for a golden age of cartoons.

Dilbert and xkcd are their progeny.  Seriously, those 5 capture and express so much of my existence it's scary.

The thing about TFS and xkcd is that they can convey so much with a single panel.  Simply amazing.

One of my favorite Far Side cartoons:

The guy who does XKCD was in my wife's class in high school.  I looked him up in her year book, and sure enough...

ETA:  One of my favorite Far Sides:

I think about this and chuckle pretty much every time I hear a dog barking.

I love The Far Side. It's a toss-up between it and Calvin and Hobbes for my favorite.

He could tell a story on a single panel with no words.

And make you laugh.

The Far Side always was one of my favorites.  I mean who didn't want a Dobi-O-matic for self defense.  The closest I have found to Larson's style and sense of humor is Tundra by Chad Carpenter.

As big of a fan as I am of Gary Larson's work (cartoonist of the far side), FWIW, he has asked that fans NOT post his work on the Internet as he then looses control of his work.
