Having spent a bunch of time in NZ you might not like the politics there either. And the gun laws even less. Although suppressors are more or less sold as OEM with many rifles.

Lots of questions like, "Are you bringing shoes you have hiked outdoors in. Has your wetsuit been cleaned after its last use" and so on. Then there is the country. Beautiful if it didn't rain a WHOLE LOT MORE THAN THEY ADVERTISE. I was mostly staying in the Leigh area. The cost of living. Glad I don't smoke since smokes are like $20 a pack. How the fuck does anyone smoke there? Booze is pricey too. I ate a lot of greenlipped mussels and lamb. Good thing I like them. I honestly don't know how ordinary folks get by there between the cost of living and what people are paid. |

For 10 years I worked at a company that had a sister office in NZ. Great place to visit but you pay. Taxes are very high. So high no one had new cars, just used imports from Japan, right side drive. Rich people had 2 cars and a motorcycle. Very heavy traffic enforcement. Lots of speed traps. They were amazed people here went over the speed limit.
A few of them would buy mountain bikes here. 1/2 the cost in NZ. $2000 one here was $4000 in NZ. They would then ding it up to look use so they wouldn't get fined bring it back. But it couldn't get too dirty or they paid a haz mat cost. Can not bring any non NZ dirt into NZ. Most of the ones that came here were afraid of guns. Those things kill people. Also they thought Ca was conservative. They could not even come close to understanding Texas. |

Its also illegal to have a garden in NZ When I was there most of them laughed at our immigration situation. As in "How did you fuck yourselves so bad" kind of laughing. They just didn't get how we could pay illegals so much less and get away with it. NZ is mostly agricultural and seem to get the work done with legal workers. Produce does cost more than it does here. Lots of backpacker and college student labor. Its hard but pays better then it does here. |

I'm in NZ right now. Honestly the gun laws are better by far than cali and NY. They also have the e-passport thing now and global entry crosses over, when I entered this time I didn't even speak to any immigration folks.
I did the e-online visa thing a while back, it said I was looked qualified but never took it further than that. I did make a rich friend that's rather sweet on me, he said he'd pull some strings fwiw. I'd take him up on it is NZ was the slightest bit less commie and a smidge more gun friendly. |

You need a job or a job skill or enough money that a job does not matter in order to get in the door.
Gun laws in New Zealand are better than California or New York. The South Island is the place to be if you like mountains and snow, the North Island is the placer to be if you like hot humid beaches. In the late 90's early 00's the NZ Military downsized, a few of my Kiwi friends who were former Kiwi military members went to Australia and joined the Aussie military. A portion of their paycheck comes from NZ and the rest comes from AUS. A few of my civilian friends moved to AUS because the job opportunities were greater. |
