just buy some undiluted glyphosate (roundup) and mix it strong (still per the instructions). Stuff is really cheap when purchased that way.

May I be the first to say screw you and your awesome view.
Nice casa! |

Straight glyphosate will kill almost anything.
Hack and squirt the trees and they will die as well. |
|
Just use a heavy duty brush saw like an old Remington and do it once in the late spring. That's your best bet. Killing all the vegetation will erode the hill and you're just asking for trouble. Besides, the good ground clear chemicals are illegal for personal use in NY.
Only other option is a few goats. Chain them to different trees everyday and they will do the rest. Key word chain, not rope. |

Builds a house there for the view. Wants to kill the view. The beauty is already there.

Why did you buy a house in the woods to get rid of the woods?

You want Crossbow, plus add a surfactant. Get a 3 gallon back pack sprayer. Now is a good to time to spray, and maybe again early next summer. Just get a 2.5 gallon jug.

Denatured alcohol injected into the base of the evil offenders.

Are you inviting erosion? Hope not, but it's solid rock under a couple feet of sand. I'm no botanist/arborist, but how do those massive trees anchor into rock under a couple feet of sand and still get water/nutrients? |

If you only kill it once a year, the roots will still be intact to hold the ground. I love city boys talk about erosion. Get roundup to kill all you can, see how it works. I buy it by the 55 gal drum. The trees you want gone dont need to be cut down with a saw to get rid of them, "girdle" with a hatchet. Once you have achieved the amount of clearing you desire, then get something like 2-4-D, or better yet CrossBow, they kill the weeds and leave the grass so you will still have nice green hill sides.

Remedy and diesel. Kills mesquite and chinese tallow like its my lawn in August.

In for when OP's house slides down what's left of the hill...

Trim what you want, but I wouldn't spray any of that. It's purdy.

Be careful up there OP. My favorite uncle had a place like that overlooking a lake and was cutting brush this past spring when he lost his footing and tumbled to his death on the rocks below. Gravity is a bitch for sure.

Arsenal works, but that's a nuclear option. Sahara is your The Day After level horticultural apocalypse.
|

killing all of the brush will give you a great view, and after a few years when all of the roots have rotted out, it'll be an exciting view.

OP. Every been on a rollercoaster ride? You get to sit in your living room and see the view come up to meet you! Do, take a video.

Why not just spread 1-2 inches of dirt then sod it. Problem solved.
No poisons used and the grass will look nice and suppress any further growth. You don't have to mow it as the grass won't get that tall anyway. Or you could spread the dirt and sow wildflowers everywhere. This is probably what I would do. ETA: instead of fresh soil you could just use a tiller and rough up the ground nice. |
|
Remedy. You may want to add some Grazon or else buy it in a 24D mix and then plant grass ASAP. Grazon is more residual and you'd tank-mix that yourself. I think Condor is the generic brand of the mixed product although IIRC it may be a restricted use herbicide.
Spray only what you want to kill. |

glyophosphate and 24d kind like a modern day agent orange 3 times a year and gtg

It's New York. No view in the world makes up for that. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes It's a pretty state. The politics suck, but it's a scenic state. Compare that against your state of Indiana where the politics are good, but scenic just isn't in the cards unless you're sitting in Brown county. Concur with the caution against erosion OP. |
