I was doing a story for a journalism class on the Indiana National Guard. The PIO offered to fly me down to the helo squadron so I jumped at the chance.

It was an OH-58. Cool. Should have pushed for a ride in an F-4C at HUF.

Just curious how many arfcommers have actually been in the air on a military aircraft.  If your one of the lucky civilians who have flown on a military aircraft you count too.  Civilian aircraft used as charters do not count.

Unfortunately the only military aircraft I have flown on was a POS C5, we flew from McCord to Louisville, Ky then back.  No windows and the pos broke down delaying our return.

Spent 11 years in the Nav and never once flew in a military aircraft.

My wife on the other hand did not serve but was evaced during flash flooding in a Air Force Chopper.

I've been in a 88 that I swear had to have been airborne at some point. We were on a fairly straight dirt road through the training area towing a Bradley. Judging by the rough ride the driver was attempting to jump something. Had to be.

night helicopter flights during some training at Ft. A.P. Hill.  Cool.  Moon light, moon shadows, snow on the ground.  Wild ride for someone sitting facing the door when the chopper would bank over in a turn.  Looked like you could reach out that smack the tree tops.

I got a M1A1 up to 57mph on a long downhill run.  One end connector was about to come off, I could hear that sucker whiz by every couple seconds.

My tank was a hotrod orphan and once I held back on a roadmarch and gave her all she had once I hit 40 or so the pin fell out of the brakes just as I caught up with the rest of the company, I had to maneuver through trees and other tanks until it slowed enough for me to set the parking brake.

I was way too aggressive as a driver, once bloodied up my gunners face in Korea.

While in the Navy I did not, but in HS I was in AF JROTC and there was a large demo at

Ft. Bragg. Our group got to fly in the back of a C-130. Hot and stifling in the back, but

the cockpit are had AC and was cool.

Not while they were in service, but I've flown a T-6 texan and a Boeing PT-17 stearman.  Of course both types had been retired from military use for decades at the time.

On an active duty aircraft?   Negative.

This. Lol.

How important are we?  Ever hear of an auto-crewman? Lol!

I'll pass 5000 hrs in the mighty Herc this year, half in the back pushing pallets and the rest center seat.

Oh. I forgot. A ride from Fujira to Bahrain in an H53. Never again.

First active military aircraft I ever flew in was a Canadian AF C-47. They still had a few in the mid 80s.

Since then,

Active:
C-141
C-9
OH-58
SH-60

Retired:
Stearman PT-17 (got some stick time)
T-6
PV2 Harpoon
C-45
C-47
B-25
A-26

Hoping for a T-33 flight soon.

Short list for me.

F-15D (Pilot gave me controls for a few turns)
KC-10 (Could've watched them refuel our F-15's we were ferrying, but I decided a nap was better)

I have opportunities to ride on B-52's and KC-135's but I have no desire to ride on those.
