I'm excited to be visiting Atlanta later this week on business.  I have late afternoons and evenings free, and all day Friday.  Other than the airport, I've never been to Atlanta.

What are the must-see attractions? Restaurants? Parks? Museums?

Thanks!

If you are into college sports, the college football hall of fame is downtown near the Olympic park.  Bunch of stuff down their, Aquarium, World of Coke, even a civil rights museum.

(I guess most of that stuff is probably geared towards children, went to them while visiting my nephews. I could easily go back to the HOF though)

Take an hour drive north of Atlanta and get into the hills.  It's pretty.  That's what I do when I go there.

Are you bringing your own gas? Are you willing to sell any of it?

GA Aquarium is nice. Stone and Kennesaw mtns if you're into history. Lots of stuff in N GA if you're into the outdoors.

The nicest areas are right next to the airport.  College Park is named so because of how highly educated the area is.

I was sent to ATL on business a couple weeks ago, family owned business that travels cheaply. Show at the convention center and we stayed by Turner Field.  If my Illinois permit was valid in GA, I would have been carrying (need to pick up a Utah or Florida Permit). If I never return to ATL again, it would be too soon. It is amazing how quickly you go from a decent neighborhood into the hood.

There was a church not but a block or two from the hotel. Their vans were in a 5 sides cage, four walls and a chain link "roof," and the vans were pulled under a device made from 4 inch pipe so that the hoods couldn't be opened.

Supposedly, the trick is to stay in the north portion of the city and ride the metro in.

If you like Italian food and don't mind driving a little North of Atlanta go to Provinos, preferably in Alpharetta, my hometown.

That's all I can offer as I rarely went downtown.

Gas is $1.98 in Macon(ghetto gas) this morning, but was $2.49 in Jonesboro Saturday afternoon. Mostly $2.19 around Macon/Bibb.

And no, there's not much for you to see down here in central GA. Unless you like airplane museums.

Depends where you are staying. I probably would not venture to far from your hotel due to time constraint, traffic in the afternoons, and the gas shortage.

Shut up, that's where I live, we already have to many tourists. Seriously though Helen is pretty cool, probably about a 2hr drive from ATL though. There is also Stone Mountain, not near as much of a drive.

Also UGA has a shit ton of restaurants, bars etc. Commerce and underground ATL if you want to go shopping, their is also the mall of Georgia.
