All four symphonies, absolutely perfect.  I've listened to them all at least 50 times, and I don't know which is my favorite.  They all have very distinct personalities.

I prefer one of his teachers, Haydn

Much more fun and 'lighter' as a composer

You're a Mozart fan. I love him too. I looooove Mozart! He was Austrian you know? But for this kind of work, he's a little bit light. So I tend to go for the heavier guys. Check out Brahms. He's good too.

Ha, ok skippy. I like classical music with a bottom to it, i.e. Sibelius.

It's funny cuz you know, he played Beethoven in Immortal Beloved.

Maybe if a couple of you primitive screwheads had seen this movie you would know he wasn't just for little old ladies knitting in their rocking chairs, he was the heavy metal ayatollah of rock n rolla of his day and got the pussy to prove it.

Will you do anything in your life that will last several hundred years?

Come hear me conduct beethoven with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Hermosillo, sonora Mexico on sept 22!

Mui bueno.  Beethoven is the fundamental composer; his obsessive sense of rhythm and his visionary approach to breaking tradition made him one of the great contributors to what we know as 'western civilization.'

We are defined to a large extent by our art.  Beethoven was part of the German contribution to what we value most today.  The US was a product of that great culture, which was only falteringly realized in Europe.

Knowledge of our heritage is one important component in preserving that heritage.  If you don't "get" Beethoven, it's okay-- but understand he was a cultural "founding father" for what we value today.

He never got his picture on bubblegum cards, did he?  Have you ever seen his picture on a bubblegum card?  Hmmm?  How can you say someone is great who's never

had his picture on bubblegum cards?

I love most of the great classical composers, but I really have a thing for piano pieces. Variations and suites. The Goldberg Variations in particular.

Bach's Goldberg Variations as played by my second favorite pianist, Glenn Gould. I was raised on this stuff; dad played the greats on the baby grand we had in the living room.

BTW, how can *anyone* but an Islamist not like Beethoven?

I enjoy the Beethoven symphonies, but can't get into Fidelio (wife saves husband).   Italian opera is better.
