In 1970, when originally offered the lead role in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by director Mel Stuart, the great Gene Wilder accepted on one condition. "When I make my first entrance,” he explained, "I'd like to come out of the door carrying a cane and then walk toward the crowd with a limp. After the crowd sees Willy Wonka is a cripple, they all whisper to themselves and then become deathly quiet. As I walk toward them, my cane sinks into one of the cobblestones I'm walking on and stands straight up, by itself; but I keep on walking, until I realize that I no longer have my cane. I start to fall forward, and just before I hit the ground, I do a beautiful forward somersault and bounce back up, to great applause." Asked why, Wilder said, "Because from that time on, no one will know if I'm lying or telling the truth." View Quote http://www.lettersofnote.com/2012/06/part-of-this-world-part-of-another.html |

I kinda figured he died long ago. I haven't heard anything about him in over 20 years. Funny guy.

He was a funny man. I hope that he is holding hands with Gilda right now.

One of his best roles

RIP.... one of the funniest to ever grace the silver screen. |

Quoted: I always enjoyed his teamwork/friendship with Richard Pryor. I guess he can say hi to his old friend now. http://images1.fanpop.com/images/photos/1500000/Richard-Pryor-Gene-Wilder-richard-pryor-1550645-320-240.jpg RIP View Quote yep, great duo |

I'm off work for a couple days this week. I will watch some of his movies again.

Rest in peace, thanks for sharing your talents with the world.

Favorite Gene Wilder movie scene was when he quoted Shakespeare in Willy Wonka: "So shines a good deed in a weary world"
That, and the "We bad!" scene with Richard Pryor in Stir Crazy. Good bye to a great. |

He was one of those rare comics who didn't need to resort to curse words or vulgarities to make you laugh. He was genuinely funny.

I made this to share the news with some friends. Seemed fitting. http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p550/Detrhoyt/meme7179834403_zpsnovvqawo.jpg View Quote |

He was a comedic genius and made the roles he played iconic. Blazing Saddles and Willy Wonka wouldn't have been anything like they are without his unique style. His partnering with Richard Pryor resulted in some of the funniest movies ever. Sad to see one of the last great comedy actors gone.

SE-DA-GIVE...!!?!!
Sad to see him go, but happy for him now that he is reunited with his wife, Gilda. |

For the record, Terri Garr was pretty smokin' back in the YF days...

View Quote My favorite Gene Wilder movie. "Would somebody please show this poor asshole the way out of town?" |

Every one of his movies was entertaining and worth
the price of admission. Can't say that about a lot of actors any more. RIP Mr. Wilder |
