Some forums (not all) are a reflection of their ownership. When Brad owned light fighter it was a different place, and busier. Everyone has a different business model and the model the current ownership has seems to be more subscription and services oriented. I started getting a lot of emails from them for firearms training classes and need to go update my preferences.

The wars died down, Pat died, gear blogs and review sites got more common, and more forums opened that cater to specific groups like cops, SF, or whatever.

I've been on there about as long as I've been here. Maybe even a little bit longer. They can definitely come off as pompous, but the idea over there is to try to limit/prevent input from people who don't know what they are talking about and therefore have no business giving advise on combat gear. |

I don't go there often, either. Lightfighter's biggest limitation is the software it uses. The Internet has changed in the last 10 years, but updates to that brand of software haven't kept up. A change is needed, but I'm not convinced the people who need to realize that are the right people to make that change. |

Sadly, a determination all too often judged not by actual experience, but by whether or not that experience led to opinions compatible with the dominant voices. To be more specific, it's a 1980's-early 1990's concept that 7th ID out of Fort Ord embraced, after leaning heavily on input from 75th Ranger Regiment, to include the creation and nurturing of Division-level formal courses that no other combat Division cared about. Didn't see any evidence on LF that people knew about that history, but the name sounded cool to a lot of the new generation of kids, so they ran with it. There has been a generational change where gear is more the focus than Team-level TTPs, and a lot of guys would be SOL without their MC kit and newest helmet, or GPS. |
