Ok, so.  I'm 42 (on Sunday). I'm in love with my wife, there's no other woman and no inclination for one.  I love my kids of which there are 4, the oldest in the Navy, twins that start high school this week and a electrified 9yr old. I have a good job with normal job stressors.  We own a home, or it owns us, I'm not sure.  I've traveled, lived a full life, with ministry work since 2005.  I'm just so over the normality of the every day ho-hum in life.  When does the mid-life crisis hit?   Is this it?   I have plenty to be thankful for, and enjoy things. It's just the monotony.  I need a change.  Thoughts?  Advice?

My advice is just be really thankful that the worst thing going on in your life right now is that your bored. The winds of change will blow through soon enough.

Turns out my midlife crisis was never having had a Glock, or a 10mm. Solved by getting both.

it does not have to be anything dramatic, just treat yourself to something, car, bike, guns....I recommend a bike if you dont have one.

Yeah, I'm thinking "mid life crises" are rich guy problems. I'm 50 and my crises are the same as they ever were.

If you're happy in your relationship and don't have "shoulda done" regrets, you might not have one.

Mine consisted of losing 80 pounds, getting in shape, running some marathons, buying a road bike and doing triathlons.  Pretty happy with the wife, five kids and job.  Having good health was a logical progression.

Been riding for 30 years. I was planning to buy a new bike for my midlife crisis 50th birthday. Saved up a good bit. But tiding my fjr1300 I got hit head on by a SUV the year before my 50th, my passenger was hurt very badly, I was luckier but out of work for 5 months. I ended up buying a sports car. Stay away from bikes if you have a family.

it is a wrap same as the hood - I lived on a very long dirt road in MO and also had the front done to protect the paint. I now line in FL and removed the front already but the back I will keep.

I guess you have to like it or you hate it.

I like it

this is how it looked before the mods I made

I'm 46 and couldn't be happier.

I knew by age 30 that I would never have a mid-life crisis.

it tends to be more existential.....questioning "why am I here?" or "is this all there is?"  When those thoughts consume your idle time, you have arrived

Do you ever notice when you hear the term "mid life crisis" it is usually coming from angry middle aged women who neglected or left their husbands and now regret it (but would never admit it) or other women who see a man who can finally afford some of the nicer things in life and are pissed off that he bought a Harley or a Sports car and he's content.

I am 52, somewhere around 40 my financial outlook started to get very sunny, funded the kids education, house paid for, and I was able to start buying stuff for me, deal with it you old hags!

Kind of.

It's the combination of realizing that your halfway to your grave, and that you'll never be the billionaire, rock star, pro athlete, space exploring President of the United States that you always knew you'd be, and that if you want to do some of the more realistic things that you dreamed of doing with your life, you better get started soon.

Some guys go full tilt bonkers, and others just start doing things that seem out of character.

I got my mid-life crisis out of the way in my mid-thirties.  I guess that means I'm going to die early.

I'm 60 next month.....survived 2 cheating wives!......the 3rd is a gift from God!
My daughter from wife #2 just got married last week.
With wife #3 I have to more beautiful adult daughters and 3 beautiful Grandkids!
Find a good hobby!!!........something to "Blow out the Cobwebs" of your brain!
I'm a Cowboy Action Shooter.......my wife and I share this together and my Grandson comes to shoot with us when he can.
I also have a Ducati 800 that satisfies the monotony "Urge" when necessary.
You HAVE done a good job so far!.....find something for you and the wife to do together!!.........Cruiser bike?.........Firearms competition of some sort? (I'm biased to the Cowboy community, it's an AWESOME group of people who encourage the ladies and kids!)
Be open and honest with the guy who looks back at you when you shave and all will be well.
You are a Survivor.......and I am too.......be happy!
Find something to break up the monotony.
PM me if I can help!

Lower your expectations, and accept what you are, not what you think you should be.

Enjoy being what and who you are, and if you can't find anything to become interested in I don't know what to tell you.

What you need is something that takes up your spare time, is available 24/7 and requires some thought. I suggest Ham Radio first, failing that buy an old tractor and restore it. On second thought, in true GD style, get both.

When you go out for a pack of smokes and wind up in Thailand, you are having a mid-life crisis.
