I'm frequently guilty of this, the latest occurrence may be my most extreme example yet. My buddy had this spare savage 110ba in .338 so I tossed out a ridiculous offer of $2000. He took it so I drug it home. It came with a Nightforce 8-32 on it which is great. Said scope is mounted with UTG rings.

Anyone else do shit like this?

Buddy sold his Ruger SR9c for $60 he wanted a video game. It had the light strike issue but I cleaned it and took it to the range and put 150 rounds through it no issue.

I did this with a Swedish Mauser last week.  I'm not even sure why I agreed to buy it.

I was out and about on my motorcycle as well.

I bought an Argentine 7.65x53  carbine for $150 at a pawn shop just for the action. Turns out the barrel is in pristine condition as well.

The stock isn't in good shape, I don't care about that, and it has a cheap Chinese scope on it.

I love the 7.65x53 and the Argentine Mausers. I'll someday turn this into a Mannlicher stocked shooter.

I was in the pawn shop hoping to find a compressor. Saw that thing on the rack for $225 and offered $150.

12 years ago, saw a sign on the Buy-Sell-Trade board at my local gun club:  "Springfield Armory M1A, $1100"

I wasn't in the market for an extra M1A, but I set up a meeting and brought a stack of $100 bills.

Guy says to me: "Don't know much about it.  I bought it brand new 15 years ago because a buddy had one and I thought firing his was cool.  Fired 10 rounds through it, cleaned it, put it away, forgot I had it."

He pulls the rifle out of its case.  I check it over -- Holy Shit! -- it is a National Match model with all-USGI parts, all the National Match mods, glass-bedded into an oversize walnut stock, and with a serial number from the timeframe when Springfield was building VERY nice M1As.

I said "I'll take it," slapped $1100 into his hand, and sprinted to the car with the rifle.

M+M M10 7.62 Romanian AK. It was a wee bit overpriced at $550-600ish. They had been around $450-500 online a year or so prior, but this was when AK prices really started shooting up and they'd been getting good reviews. I've been mostly happy with it although the front sight seems to be a bit canted, and the magwell is so tight that a lot of mags won't fit. I'm debating on working on the magwell or just selling it. I should have sold it off during the panic when they were going for $8-900+.

The last two guns were bought this way.

Friday afternoon off so I wandered into the lgs and walked out with a 1943 Lithgow SMLE Mklll No1 for $150.

The next day I headed out of town and hit one of the shops there. Saw an old Springfield semiauto .22, with the fish gill cuts in the receiver behind the chamber, that had an old 3/4" scope mounted in an external adjustment mount. $125 later it was mine.

Most of my guns have been bought this way.

Late 90s WInchester 94 in 32 Winchester Special for $119 at the local cop shop.  Was a trade in (confiscated) by the local constable.

Realized I had no real use and sold it the next day to a coworker who wanted a wall hanger for $300.

Several times.  I paid $110 OTD for my 870 from a local cop shop years ago.  Former Georgia State Patrol gun that had a nice stock but was missing the forearm and had obviously ridden around in a truck.  I sent it off to Scattergun Technologies (pre-Wilson) back when they had their $150 special where they would take any old 870 and clean them up, cut/crown the barrels and replace the sights, replace springs, replace the furniture with Speedfeed stocks and forearm (non-shell holding stock) and parkerize the whole thing.  For $260 I have a Scattergun Technology 870.   I added a Remington +2 extension, a side saddle shell holder, a sling and a flashlight.  About two years ago I sent the barrel off to have it threaded for Remchoke tubes to tighten it up even more.  It's a heck of a blaster.

I had a Mossberg 500A that I bought for $75 off a co-worker who was getting a divorce.  I used it as a beater truck gun for several years before selling it to someone who wanted it for home defense.

There are plenty that I passed on too that I wish I hadn't, like a S&W K frame .32S&W Long for $75 because I didn't want another caliber.    Note for the younger guys, n the late 80s and early 90s you could pick up used police revolvers cheap as everyone wanted wonder nines.  I did grab a couple of 10s, 19s, 64s and a 65 although I sold most of them off over the years.

Lets see...
Department store Mossberg 500, 120 bucks.
Savage 1914 pump action .22, 180 bucks
High Standard 101 .22, 40 bucks
Remington 510 .22, 100 bucks
Beretta SL-4 over under, 600 bucks

and my crown jewel, a P.O. Ackley built Remington 1903 in .257 Roberts Ackley Improved, fitted with a prewar, commercial reticle Ziess scope for 400 bucks, I bought it just for the scope and action then realized its worth at least 13+ times what paid, so it stays un remolested.

Sadly, because I get everything at cost, the deal is always right. So I acquire more firearms that I do not need....causing me to be broke...all the time.

Let's see. Within the last month:

IWI X95
Glock 19 Talos
BCM Recce 16 in Dark Bronze

Needed none of those, but I also needed all of those.

I have no self control.

Yup...broke.

I bought a Beretta 950 in 6.35mm for $80 OTD from a gun shop. I really miss that pistol. It was a pre-68 Italian import without the external safety.

I was in a gun store in Argentina some time ago. I was getting my collectors license and I was looking at a one year waiting period. They had this gun selling for 250 pesos, which no one wanted to buy because of the 1 year waiting period required.

I'm a very patient person. The thing is, they had ANOTHER of these FMK3 9mm, so I just went for it and bought both for 500 Argentine pesos. That was right before 2001, meaning 1 USD = 1 Argentine Peso.  So, yes, I bought two open bolt 40 round 9mm SMG guns for 500 USD. These had a safety that only allows semi atuo fire, but another gunstore sold the original FMK3 selector which allows FA. The part is legal to buy, so I got it for about ten bucks.
So yes, impulse buying at the time but I never regretted it.

Did it have any markings indicating its former use?  That would be of interest to collectors.

The PX here started selling guns.  I "impulse buy" a couple guns a week.

Heck, MOST of my firearm acquisitions are the result of a deal too good to pass up.

Especially with C&R stuff. For example; Cherry's would sell on special five new-in-wrap M44 Mosin-Nagants for $59 each delivered! I bought 15 rifles
