Class act,  great player, and a gentleman.

I'm glad he got in. He deserves it. Wasn't a number one draft, wasn't touted as the next big deal. Hard work and a bit of luck, and he became one of the best hitting catchers ever. Not bad for a 67th (?) Round pic!

I'll never forget the 9/11 homer, even if it was against my braves.  He was my favorite catcher growing up.

Best moment in Piazza's career:

No, not a fan of Mike, after the way he left LA.

I can't believe it took four fucking years for him to get in.

Look up his stats...........he should have been a first rounder.

Lasorda is his brother's god father. Piazza was drafted by the Dodgers as a personal favor to Lasorda. He wasn't offered a contract at all until Lasorda brought him to LA and pushed it.  That was the day Piazza became a catcher. He had never caught previously and was the only way to get him signed at all.

drafted like 1350th.

he did ok.

he shoulda popped Clemens.

I was at Shea one night, 1st baseline, upper level. He hit this home run. It never curved, straight and flat.

OH YEAH vs The Braves, on fireworks night...best ever.

He played 16 years........average was .308, hit over 400 homeruns and it took him four fucking rounds to get elected to the HOF!!??

And he was a catcher for god's sake!!??

I have always said there should be testing to qualify sportswriters being allowed to vote for the HOF candidates.

I think a lot of voters kept him out initially because of PEDs

That part I do remember.

But I don't recall the 'how he left L.A.' part
Can you refresh my memory?

No he wasn't a Number one round  pick, he was a 62nd round pick and selected 1390  in the 1988 draft. From that to HOF is huge, he was a great player and although I was a braves fan, I always admired him.
