According to Ed Sr., if members want a return of the old pit, they have to make a thread or poll discussing it to prove to staff it's what the membership wants.
This is that thread. You're welcome. If you are unfamiliar with what the old pit was like, please refrain from voting and hit "submit" if you wish to see the results. Link to Ed's post before one of the boomer squad gets pissy about this thread |

If people are allowed to discuss movies in there, I say bring it back.
Otherwise, no. |

I support the restoration of the pit back to its former self. Yes, it was silly at times, but it was a place where problems could be resolved. It was also a place where steam could be blown off, thus in some way possibly preventing problems from arising elsewhere. It also provided a place for the membership to police their own, as it should. Being able to call someone to task for what they said/did/posted/etc isn't a bad thing.

I wish the pit was somewhere between the petting zoo that it is now and the stupid retard level that it was before when everyone was basically just saying random shit to each other while they waited for the accused party(s) to show up and post. Its not that it was offensive, it was just boring watching everyone trying to sound creative

A: Bring back the old pit B: Keep the pit in its current form |

I think that part of the reason the pit was "closed" was due to self-professed troll-hunters. Some of this was helpful to help maintain the civility, but staff tired of refereeing the provoked purse fights.

Well, if we really need a forum where the same crowd can have a dog-pile circlejerk over every real or imagined slight that had absolutely nothing to do with them...

A couple of worthwhile topics and posts drowned out by a peanut gallery.
Pass. |

Make arfcom great again! Bring back the true pit!
Where the fuck is the poll? |
|
I also support returning the pit to the way it was before. While it was often times ridiculously juvenile and typically resulted in just purse swinging, I agree that it did provide a relief valve for some of the garbage and COC violations you see all over GD these days. Will it fix GD? Probably not. But at least it gives the membership another option that doesn't necessarily place an account at risk (within limits of course).

I never got to enjoy the real pit, it was closed before my time.
I vote for it to be reopened. |
