First goal that wasn't a beautiful team effort.

And the defense thought they didn't have to work anymore apparently.  Balls.

Liverpool seem weak on defense still and wildly inconsistent.  Beat barca, lose to Mainz.  Crap first half, outstanding 20 minutes, last bit looking meh again.

....and as I'm typing this they give up another goal.

I disagree. Hazard looked great, Costa was very aggressive. Defense was strong, everyone pressed. Dominated the possession. Good result.

Couldn't watch today, only got Twitter updates.  Sounds like both Kante and Costa could have been sent off with second yellows.

as an astute individual on Reddit observed, it cost Liverpool about £500,000 to get Villa relegated.

Christian Benteke: Crystal Palace reach agreement for Liverpool striker

Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign Belgium striker Christian Benteke for an initial £27m fee.

The 25-year-old is travelling to London to have a medical and finalise terms.

Benteke, who joined the Reds for £32.5m in July 2015, would be Palace's record signing, of £27m + £5m of add ons.

Lots of "Leicester lost their form, kante was the secret ingredient" doom and gloom talk this week.

I think they're just off to a slow start because they partied hard after winning and aren't 100% fit....and defenses have adjusted a bit to their style and are playing deeper back.

Interesting Fantasy League this week  -   4 ARFCOMers within 3 point for the game week (58-61), although the world wide average was only 57

However, the Aggie leading this clusterfuck has BOTH Sergio Agüero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.  We are SO fucked.  Hope he stops updating his team in November again this year so the rest of us have a chance

I'm not sure what happened with LFC at Burnley.  Ever since the club sold Suarez, they've been useless in the final third.  Either they rampage over teams or have no answers, because they can't break down a defense and get a gritty goal.  8X% possession and 26 shots and no goals.

And at the back, it's still not working.  If they get Sakho back in there, maybe that'll help.  But Moreno is such a liability at the moment...he has potential, but can cost the team badly.  I really don't get why Klopp wouldn't just sell him off and buy Ricardo Rodriguez (who is rated as a top 10 LB in the world) or another option.  Worth every penny to try and shore up the leaky defense.

Henderson is average.  A mid-table player at best.  The club has their blinders on about him.  Firmino is terribly wasteful in possession and his end-product hasn't been great. He's a shadow of Coutinho.  Lallana has potential, but is wildly inconsistent.  Wignaldum I don't know a whole lot about, but he certainly hasn't made people go "whoa" yet (he does have an assist).  Basically, the midfield isn't cohesive yet, but doesn't have a WC playmaker in it (Coutinho could be if he could get more consistent).

Still, did get rid of a lot of deadwood and the net-spend has been negative money at the moment.  That's good business.  Hard to predict what results are going to look like though.  Seems they wasted a lot of time in the middle of the transfer window and have missed out on possibly getting a few more pieces in.  Could have used Dahoud maybe, Rodriguez, maybe another winger like Lucas Moura (who was heavily linked with LFC this window).

The positive feel of the win over Arsenal got shattered by Burnley.

Bristol Rovers are 18th of 24 in League One. Though many Premier League sides have been ambushed in Cup play by teams leagues below them, I think Conte has coached enough Coppa play in Italy to go through.
