Some of you may remember my thread where we had a fishing accident, and Little Man freaked the F out, and made me go to the ER.
Anyway, I had been jawing back and forth with my GP to cut a Sebaceous Cyst from below my calf, which had been rubbing on the tops of my shit kickers while riding and doing ground work....annoying me. The wife and I decided to show the kids that very minor surgery and and sutures are a good tool to possess, so to save $2k, we killed two birds with one stone. Here is the procedure last week.... The cyst I ended up making a cross cut (not ideal, but necessary in this instance to pull the sack out....it was deeper than I thought). The oldest putting on bacitracin after suturing the wound....the wife wanted to practice stitches, as it has been a while. It is healing nicely, although I wish I would not have made a cross cut, but it is what it is. Iodine, sterile instruments, bacitracin, etc are your friend. DO not attempt this at home. |

I dug one of those out of my back with a pocket knife once.
Not saying it was the best plan, but it worked. |

We kinda do too....but, it's just like doctoring animals, just on yourself.

Damn that is a fat calf. Reminds me of taking pathology in dental school, instructor said the contents smelled like new jersey.

Packing a wound is more preferable when you go this deep. Suturing can cause an abscess if any infection starts.
Other than that great work. Try to find lidocaine for the next time! |

I had one cut out of my back. I didn't do it myself, I couldn't reach it. The doctor did a cross-cut too.

2K LOL in a free market that is a $200 dollar job... I have done one myself on my shoulder, wish I had gotten help, but was able to get myself.

That is exactly how you contaminate a bacitracin tube. Apply it with a single use q-tip next time. Better trash that tube.
Is that calf deformity a birth defect? |

Haven't messed with cysts since I don't have any. I have, on occasion, taken out a lipoma or three. I've also had a surgeon take them out. It's funny, the ones I've done myself leave about a 1/4 scar. The doc left me mutilated. Internal stitches and glued the edges with some form of dermabond. Didn't even approximate the wound that well. I had deep bruising and several sites dehisced, which took forever to heal.

I've excised pilar cysts on my own head. Not my head: https://o.quizlet.com/HJ76TqxxD.RGAUJES16ZhQ_m.jpg The sac is thick and looks like this if you get it out in one piece: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b6/Trichilemmalcyst.JPG Your scalp bleeds like a MFer, so I get some lido with epi and infiltrate it to control that. Luckily, I'm a guy, I'm bald, and I don't GAF about scars on my head so it works out. If I cared, I could pay a pro to do it for me and get a minimal scar.....but nah. View Quote |

I cut a plantar wart out of my foot with an SOG bowie one night. it hadn't responded to various treatment, and I was tired of it bugging me when I walked. a little Wild Turkey, some Neosporin and gauze, and problem solved. |

You ride, train and work cattle? That's awesome.... I didn't know CT had much of a livestock industry... Although, I'm sure there are some. I bought these at Lou Taubert's... The cheapest working man boot (Ariat's) that are worth a damn. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

When the doc did the infected one on my back he did one horizontal slit and squeezed out all of the pus. There was a lot of it. Then they stuck in a gauze drain and taped some gauze sheets over it. Told me to pull out the drain the next day and keep it covered for a few days. Got a sweet scar letting it heal without closing.
Wouldn't try one myself. |

Yeah, no way would I pay someone $200 for something so simple. On the one hand, the pro will have anesthetic, but when you do it yourself it's better to be able to feel what's going on so you don't want it anyway. |

I won't do that to the one in my neck, leave it the doc.
It's very close to my Carotid artery. |

I had a mole on my right forearm, that one day I decided looked funny. So I picked it away with my fingernails. Hasn't come back.
