went to the sporting good store to get some stuff for my son, wondered around the eyewear counter, thought about replace my old plastic Oakley's with something metal framed.

Found a pair fits me pretty good and the price tag is $199, looked closely it says "China".  they have few others with even higher price tags up $400 also made in China.

WTF?  Why would anyone pay that kinda price for a Walmart product?

Oh, BTW, the pair I picked out is called "Tinfoil".

Friends of mine worked for Oakley. They said virtually all production has shifted to China, design is still in Ca. They also said QC has gone way down and both quite (engineers) over it. I guess I need to make the USA pair they got for me last!

I dont get too hung up on location. I look at fit and finish as well as materials.

My dad checks the label on everything he buys and has all of my life. I would say that usa made is more likely to be a little better but ive seem him buy some real garbage because the better product beside it said made in china.

I dont like arbitrary things. "Made in usa" doesnt mean a damn thing. Its intangible as it relates to product quality.

"This item made in xxxxx has better seams and the material appears less brittle" is a tangible thing.

I read an article at least ten years ago that said every pair of eye glass frames no matter who the manufacturer or designer was were made by the same company over seas.

never understood why anyone would pay the Oakley price for Oakleys anyway.

Watched a set blow off a dumbass's face while fishing. My dad and I laughed at the stupid yuppie.

Ya know...$200 sunglasses sink to the bottom of Lake Michigan just as well as $10 ones.

I have been happy with Spy sunglasses, I've had a pair of polarized Hielos for 5 years.

My original M frames from 1991 were $265 and they floated. I had them until 2002, then sold them on Ebay for $385. They were awesome sunglasses.

Been partial lately to Edge Reclus SR116 7861 safety sunglasses. Fit well, work well, look decent, boss gets them for me [I'd buy them myself if he didn't]

Made in Taiwan FWIW.

Chinese stuff is almost always shit, they will cut corners on anything they make if not watched carefully.

Why do people pay $40 plus dollars for sneakers when they cost a couple of bucks to make.
Why do people pay $14 for a pair of POLO underwear when they cost pennies to make.
You can apply this to some many products, and it is all about the pure stupidity on the part of
the consumer which leads to pure profit for the sellers.

I would like most products I buy to be made here.

Quality is better most of the time.

BUT...the main reason is I would rather support US companies and their US workers. Not US companies that have their products made in China.

I spent 10 years in a union shop. I can count on one hand the number of fiscally conservative union members I met out of around 2000 people.

Oakley *is* an American company, who uses Chinese manufacturing. If you want American companies to use American manufacturing, get the leftist unions to stop choking production on their home soil.

The company is located right down the road from me here in Georgia.  I don't know if they are made in China or not but they're way more affordable than Oakley's.  They have polarized lens' and impact resistant lens'.

edit:  Made in Taiwan according to Amazon
