Should I quit while I'm ahead?

It was my first game ever

If you were playing penny poker, keep playing.

If you were playing for money, yes, you should quit while you're ahead.

ETA: If the people you were playing with invite you back for another game, but with higher stakes, take your play elsewhere.

In the last month I've been up 4000, I lost 2000, back up to a little over 3000.  Right now I'm sitting about 3200 up again.

Never been much of a gambler.  Didn't really wanna play in the first place but didn't much have a choice. I doubt it'll be a hobby of mine

Well like most gamblers they only list when they win big but never list how much they are down overall.

Most gamblers simply don't keep track of it all, and can only remember the big wins.

I have a friend who is quite good at poker.  He plays a couple of times a week.  He can tell you exactly where he is with regards to wins and losses, because he keeps a written accounting of it.

I'd guess it's because he enjoys playing poker.

I used to have a few-times-a-year game with friends. Everyone brings $20, a bag of chips, and a six pack. Play til we're out of money or beer. Cheaper than a night at the movies and a hell of a lot more fun. No one ever loses more than $20 and usually two people would go home up 40-50-60 bucks.

I'm not sure what post you read, but I actually did list when I was down.  Thanks though.

I just found a good game about a month ago, so really only started playing again about a month ago.

Like I said, right now I'm about 3200 up.

As to the other question, I didn't stop because I enjoy playing poker.  If I lose enough to get back 1000 up overall, I'll stop again for awhile.
