My friends dad died on the job (at Boeing) in the early 80's and his wallet never turned up. One of the first responders took his wallet and racked up a few hundred dollars on his Sears card.
I was pretty young back then, but seem to remember the incident ending up in the news. |

(I do not understand why anyone uses a debit card for anything other than getting emergency cash in the middle of the night.) If it is a debit card, then you will wait months for your money back.
