My lower back hurts most mornings. Is the mattress to soft?
Disregard the fact that a toddler ends up between my wife and I most nights.

Yep, probably a crappy mattress. How old is it? Was it a better quality or not when new?

Also, having a toddler in the bed with you and the wife is a bad idea. Your idea or your wife's?

mattress isnot firm enough..  that causes lower back pain..

couple options -

1) new mattress  - suggest natural latex    check out sleepez.com   we have been extrememely happy

2) is it on a 'box spring' or platform (solid base)?   Switch to a solid base OR add a layer of plywood on top of the box springs to make it firmer
