So after wearing Oakley's for over a decade, I am tired of paying for replacement lenses that cost 4-5 times what a decent pair of ANSI rated safety glasses cost. Even the Revant aftermarket lenses are still relatively expensive, and unlike the genuine Oakley lenses, are not impact resistant.
So what I want to do is find some decent looking (not something you'd see on a Coors swilling NASCAR fan) safety glasses that are tinted and can be use for driving and all around sunglasses. Any recommendations? |

Pyramex glasses.
I've worn various models such as the Rendezvous, Accurist, and Avante. They're all good, come in several different lens styles, and range in price based on lens from $3 to $50. You can get those models on Amazon. |

Not sure how much cheaper - possibly more expensive, but you'll definitely get superior quality over Oakley looking at Uvex or Revision.

Go to the automotive department at walmart. No shit, they have z87.1 eyeware for <$5 that is extemely scratch resistant and cleanable with dish soap. My company in the oilpatch decided to cut costs by only buying clear safety glasses, so I started buying my own shaded ones. The walmart glasses almost never scratch or wear out

The cheaper the sunglasses, the longer they seem to last, and the less prone I am to lose them.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=3m+safety+glasses I like 3M safety glasses. They fit my face, are Z87, and the price is right. If I don't get them off Amazon, they're in the tool section at Walmart. Best, JBR |

I'm a fan of the ESS Crossbows. A two pack of one clear and one tint lense is about $60. Spare lenses run about $15. I like the Supressor frames for running ear muffs or my headset at work.

Why would you ever want to go cheap when it comes to your eye safety?

There are issued ESS eye pro kits in EE almost weekly. For clear ones that's what I use.
Finding a buddy with a standard issue account shouldn't be hard. |

Mil Surp ESS kits are all over ebay. I bought the Ice kit with two full frames and clear/tinted lenses for $30.

Relevant to my interests.
Would be interested in the same as OP, but if you also got prescription lenses, chime in. |

Tag for any polarized options. View Quote flyingfisherman.com has a lot of polarized glasses that are stylish and not junk, but they are affordable. They fill the mid-level quality/price void in my opinion. They have a lot of choices (maybe too many). Here is a link to just one of their series: http://www.flyingfisherman.com/622/Action-Angler-Series.html HighSpeedSteel |

More expensive eyewear might have better coatings for flare or anti-fog, better fit, better options, better clarity - but ANSI specs are ANSI specs. In what way are you saying Oakleys are safer and what independent verification is out there to back at up? |

Tons of cheap options here: http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/greylens.html
I personally wear these for working in the woods and doing things where I know there is a good chance of scratching and damaging expensive sunglasses: http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/250-46-0021.html |

ESS works for me. $80 for 3 eyeshields (clear, amber, smoke grey) and a frame, replacement eyeshields are less than $30 IIRC as a rule.

In order to give them impact resistance the polycarbonate is formulated slightly softer than standard eyeglasses to avoid shattering and have some give. It's kind of why safety glasses scratch easier. |

Is there a national chain where I can try on Edge in person, and check for fit, etc?
