Mullah Omar.
As Obama says, Islam was a fundamental part of the founding of this country, and for too long has been denied equal treatment in the fields of justice. We need a wise Mullah who can judge from both the Constitution and Sharia to bring America closer to the intent of the founders. |

That would put the Senate in "check". Relatively (on paper) conservative (at least not a fire-breathing Comminist) and a job in the Bush Admin. on his resume. He's Indian so a minority without baggage.
Wasn't born here but since we have no borders any more, that's a "meh". Is he a sleeper for the Commies? He's problematic for the Conservatives in the Senate. TC |

Can't he nominate himself? I mean we already know he's going for UN secretary general, he's already been king, why not get himself into the scotus? Chewbacca will still get to shop all day so it's a win, win, win!

You know, as I think about it really our supreme court justices are really powerful and probably wouldn't be a bad idea for them to be natural born citizens as well.

Kamala Harris. OH HELL NO! Another name being bandied about is Goodwin Liu. CA Supreme Court. Either of these would bring change and diversity to the Supremes. And be a COMPLETE disaster. eta And both are relatively young, yielding a potential decades long ass fucking. The obvious tactic of the left (i.e. 0) has been to go for young, inexperienced (dare I say unqualified) appointments just for the reason you cite. Hopefully, if a republican is elected, he will consider turn about fair play and do the same with his appointments...although we all know there is only one candidate who (shall remain nameless) would do so. |

But if Obama nominates him, that's almost enough reason not to confirm him by itself. |

This goes far beyond the question of who, as the candidate determines control of the court. The court isn't supposed to be political or in need of control. This exposes the real issue of what the court is, how we got to this point, and how to fix it. If we can.
Really, there is no thought being given about the structural problems. We have constitutional rights, only if we can prove it in a court that takes years to get to, costs millions of dollars, and that can refuse to listen to the case at all? How is ANYTHING a right ? How can this be a free country? When lawyers were being taught the civil war discredited the constitution, was that the beginning of the end? When Holmes came up with the management of rights- you can't yell fire in a crowed theater- replacing PRINCIPALS of rights- did that doom us? Have we reached the logical conclusion of our nation? |
